Combining Ability for Grain Yield and Popping Expansion in Popcorn (Zea mays everta) Hybrids

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Agriculture: Food Science and Technology
The poor yield and popping quality underscore the need for indigenous germplasm improvement. This study aimed to find parents with high general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) for yield and popping traits.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

General and Specific Combining Ability of Five Alfalfa Clones Including Reciprocal Effects for Seedling Vigor and Seed Yield

open access: yes, 1961
The use of F1 hybrids for commercial production of such cross-pollinated crops as corn, sorghum, sugar beets, onions, and pearl millet suggests the feasibility of using this technique for alfalfa. Production of F1 hybrids of commercial value is dependent

Heterosis and combining ability for yield and other agronomic traits in Triticale

open access: yesOpen Agriculture, 2018
The estimation of genetic parameters such as heterosis (Mh), heterobeltiosis (Hh), general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) allows inferences about the predominant action of the genes, indicates the appropriate selection ...

Studies on Combining Ability in Bitter Gourd (Momordica charantia L.)

open access: yes, 2007
Combining ability study in eight bitter gourd lines, to identify suitable parents and crosses for further exploitation, indicated that the lines MC 13 (L1) and Panruti Local (L2) were good general combiners for yield per vine. The lines Ayakudi Local (L3)
