Existence of global solutions and decay estimates for a viscoelastic Petrovsky equation with a delay term in the non-linear internal feedback

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2017
In this article we consider a nonlinear viscoelastic Petrovsky equation in a bounded domain with a delay term in the weakly nonlinear internal feedback: $$\eqalign{ &|u_t|^{l}u_{tt} +\Delta^2 u -\Delta u_{tt} -\int_0^t h(t-s)\Delta^2 u(s)\,ds\cr ...

Boundary Stabilization of Memory Type for the Porous-Thermo-Elasticity System

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2009
We consider the one-dimensional viscoelastic Porous-Thermo-Elastic system. We establish a general decay results. The usual exponential and polynomial decay rates are only special cases.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Predictability of decay events in transitional wall-bounded flows

open access: yes
Extreme events in turbulent flows are in general linked with sudden changes in the dynamics of the system. Despite the increasing interest in modelling these events, their predictability remains largely unexplored.

On the Relative Decay of Unbounded Semigroups on the Domain of the Generator

open access: yesZurnal matematiceskoj fiziki, analiza, geometrii
Summary: We study the asymptotics of \(C_0\)-semigroups on the domain of the generator. In particular, we analyze the behavior of \(||T(t)(A-\lambda I)^{-1}||\) as time goes to infinity. Our results extend some existing results to the case when the intersection of the spectrum of the generator with the imaginary axis is non-empty.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Comparative decay of sewage-associated marker genes in beach water and sediment in a subtropical region

open access: yes, 2019
There is a growing move towards using the quantitative polymerase chain (qPCR)-based sewage-associated marker genes to assess surface water quality.

Vacuum Decay in General Relativity

open access: yes, 2018
We provide a novel, concise and self-contained evaluation of true- and false vacuum decay rates in general relativity. We insist on general covariance and choose observable boundary conditions, which yields the well known false-vacuum decay rate and a new true-vacuum decay rate that differs significantly from prior work.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.
