A prospective adaptive utility trial to validate performance of a novel urine exosome gene expression assay to predict high-grade prostate cancer in patients with prostate-specific antigen 2-10ng/ml at initial biopsy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Discriminating indolent from clinically significant prostate cancer (PCa) in the initial biopsy setting remains an important issue. Prospectively evaluated diagnostic assays are necessary to ensure efficacy and clinical adoption.

m5C‐Modified tRF3b‐CysGCA‐23 Suppresses Bladder Cancer Malignancy by Repressing H3K18 Lactylation via Stabilizing RBM4

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we identified an NSUN6‐dependent m5C‐modified tsRNA, m5C‐tRF3b CysGCA‐23 (mtRC), that is downregulated in BC and inversely correlated with disease progression. Mechanistically, mtRC suppresses BC malignancy by stabilizing RBM4, attenuating glycolysis, and thereby limiting H3K18 lactylation–mediated activation of IL1RAP and VASH2 ...

Medical image computing and computer-aided medical interventions applied to soft tissues. Work in progress in urology

open access: yes, 2006
Until recently, Computer-Aided Medical Interventions (CAMI) and Medical Robotics have focused on rigid and non deformable anatomical structures. Nowadays, special attention is paid to soft tissues, raising complex issues due to their mobility and ...

Can intravesical prostatic protrusion predict bladder outlet obstruction even in men with good flow?

open access: yesAsian Journal of Urology, 2016
Objective: Men with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) with good urinary flow may still have bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). Intravesical prostatic protrusion (IPP) has been shown to be able to predict BOO.

Dynamic Shifts in ER–Plasma Membrane Junctions Signaling Define Pro‐Metastatic N‐Glycosylation and Predict Prostate Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer remains a leading cause of male cancer death, yet screening cannot reliably identify aggressive disease, underscoring the need for tissue biomarkers. It is shown that primary tumors increase ER–plasma membrane junction signaling via STIM1/ORP5, whereas metastasis features their loss, Golgi dispersal, and rapid conversion of high‐mannose

The CAG trinucleotide repeat length in the androgen receptor does not predict the early onset of prostate cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Objective To relate the repeat length of the androgen-receptor CAG trinucleotide to the age of onset of prostate cancer, stage and grade of disease. Patients and methods After obtaining ethical approval, 265 patients with locally confined or locally ...

Outcomes of patients older than 75 years with non-metastatic prostate cancer

open access: yesAsian Journal of Urology, 2017
Objective: Prostate cancer in elderly patients was formerly treated with androgen deprivation therapy. Since the latter of the 1990s new technologies were introduced into treatments, then strategies have varied.

Piezo1 Channel Mediates Mechanically Programmable Drug Delivery to Potentiate Intravesical Chemotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study utilizes programmable mechanical pressure as a therapeutic enhancer to establish a mechano‐chemotherapy strategy. Controlled pressure activates the mechanosensitive ion channel Piezo1 in bladder cancer, triggering a calcium ion cascade that transiently and reversibly amplifies membrane permeability to chemotherapeutics.

Chemical Proteomics Identifies Ketogenesis‐Mediated Cysteine Modifications Regulating Redox Function

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Herein, we report ketone body induce cysteine modifications beyond lysine acylation, as revealed by integrating chemical proteomics with open‐search methods. Among the modifications, cysteine crotonation (Ccr) was chemically validated by endogenous peptide‐based co‐elution assays.
