Ray tracing generalized cylinders
ACM Transactions on Graphics, 1985An algorithm is presented for ray tracing generalized cylinders, that is, objects defined by sweeping a two-dimensional contour along a three-dimensional trajectory. The contour can be any 'well-behaved' curve in the sense that it is continuous, and that the points where the tangent is horizontal or vertical can be determined, the trajectory can be any

Vented circular cylinder as a vortex generator
Journal of Visualization, 2005hese Mach-Zender interferograms show the effect of slot incidence on the near-wake features of a circular cylinder with natural ventilation. When the slot incidence angle is varied in the range 60amp;deg; to 90amp;deg; with respect to the mean flow, dramatic change in the flow features can be observed, as compared to the basic cylinder.

Finding the limbs and cusps of generalized cylinders
Proceedings. 1987 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 1988This paper addresses the problem of finding analytically the limbs and cusps of generalized cylinders. Orthographic projections of generalized cylinders whose axis is straight and whose axis is an arbitrary 3D curve are considered in turn. In both cases, the general equations of the limbs and cusps are given.

THE ROTATION AND TRANSLATION OF CYLINDERS IN GENERAL RELATIVITY
International Journal of Modern Physics D, 2010In general relativity, the gravitational field of an infinite rotating cylinder is globally (but not locally) different from that of a static cylinder. It is shown here that, for an infinite rigidly translating (non-rotating) cylinder of perfect fluid with a regular axis, there exists a (translating) frame of reference relative to which the ...

Generation of vortices by a streamwise oscillating cylinder
Journal of Visualization, 2007The wake of a streamwise oscillating cylinder is presently investigated. The Reynolds number investigated is 300, based on the cylinder diameter d. The cylinder oscillates at an amplitude of 0.5 d and a frequency f$_e$/f$_s$=1.8, where f$_e$ is the cylinder oscillating frequency and f$_s$ is the natural vortex shedding frequency of a stationary ...

Generalized cylinders extraction in a range image
Proceedings. International Conference on Recent Advances in 3-D Digital Imaging and Modeling (Cat. No.97TB100134), 2002We deal with 3D object modeling using generalized cylinders from a single range image. We focus on right generalized cylinders, a class of generalized cylinders for which the cross-section is at right angle with the axis. No homogeneity or straightness constraints are imposed.
