High performance generalized cylinders visualization
2003 Shape Modeling International., 2003This paper studies the problem of real-time rendering of highly deformable generalized cylinders. Some efficient schemes for high axis curvature detection are presented, as well as an incremental non-uniform sampling process. We also show how the recent 3D card "skinning" feature, classical in character animation, can be derived in order to allow for ...

Modelling mollusc shells with generalized cylinders
Computers & Graphics, 1998Abstract The shape of mollusc shells has drawn the attention of scientists for a long time already. Recently, the first computer-generated images of shells were presented. In this article, we present a way of modelling shells with generalized cylinders and textures. Generalized cylinders are defined by moving a 2D contour along a 3D trajectory, which

The generation of accurate cylinders
Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1956A method of diamond-turning accurate cylinders for the production of helical rulings is described. Details are given of the special tool holder, and performance figures quoted show that, for a typical cylinder, the central half may be held constant in diameter to ±10μ in.

On Vortex Generation by a Rotating Cylinder
Fluid Dynamics, 2020The problem of evolution of an axisymmetric vortex generated by an infinitely elongated cylinder rotating around its axis in a compressible viscous fluid is considered. The asymptotic solution is constructed for large times. The conditions under which the velocity circulation at long distances is higher than in the incompressible fluid case are ...

We analyze the properties of straight homogeneous generalized cylinders (SHGCs) and constant cross section generalized cylinders (CGCs), and derive the types of symmetries that the limb boundaries and cross sections of these objects produce on the image plane.

Aerodynamic Sound Generated by a Rotating Cylinder
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1968The flow generated by a sinusoidally rotating cylinder immersed in a viscous and slightly compressible fluid is calculated as a singular perturbation problem (in the Mach number). It is found that the transverse waves in the boundary layer are not sufficient to satisfy all conditions of the problem but that longitudinal waves have to be added.

Recovering Generalized Cylinders by monocular vision
1996In this paper, we propose a theoretical study of the Generalized Cylinders (GC) with constant circular cross-section viewed under perspective projection.

Splines as embeddings for generalized cylinders
Computer Vision, Graphics, and Image Processing, 1984Generalized cylinders are an attractive representation for three-dimensional objects. One of their principal features is that the representation contains an intrinsic coordinate frame. The intrinsic (object-centered) frame computed from image data facilitates the matching of an object with a similarly represented stored prototype.

A Generalized Predictive Force Controller for electropneumatic cylinders
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2010Is it possible to synthesize an easy-to-implement predictive force controller for electropneumatic cylinders? In this paper, this problem is treated in details. As an electropneumatic cylinder is a highly nonlinear actuator, our strategy is based on the precise nonlinear modeling of the actuator and the application of a feedback linearization strategy.

Modeling generalized cylinders via Fourier morphing
ACM Transactions on Graphics, 1999Generalized cylinders provide a compact representation for modeling many components of natural objects as well as a great variety of human-made industrial parts. This paper presents a new approach to modeling generalized cylinders based on cross-sectional curves defined using Fourier descriptors.
