Electrophysiologic Study of Cognitive Functions in Epileptic Patients

open access: yesمجلة كلية الطب, 2011
Background: Cognitive dysfunctions in epileptic patients may develop due to the neurophysiologic changes related to seizures or antiepileptic drugs. Objectives: The aim of this longitudinal study was to evaluate the cognitive dysfunction in epileptic ...

Genetic Causes of Generalized Epilepsies [PDF]

open access: yesSeminars in Neurology, 2015
Generalized epilepsies, particularly the idiopathic or genetic generalized epilepsies (GGEs), represent some of the most common epilepsies. Clinical genetic data including family studies and twin studies provide compelling evidence for a prominent genetic impact.

Genome wide high density SNP-based linkage analysis of childhood absence epilepsy identifies a susceptibility locus on chromosome 3p23-p14

open access: yes, 2009
Childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) is an idiopathic generalised epilepsy (IGE) characterised by typical absence seizures manifested by transitory loss of awareness with 2.5–4 Hz spike-wave complexes on ictal EEG.

Late-Onset Generalized Myoclonic Seizure: Case Report

open access: yes, 2021
Most of the epileptic seizures that begin at an advanced age are focal onset seizures due to an underlying structural lesion. Generalized myoclonic seizures, usually seen in adolescence, are very rare in elderly patients without a history of epilepsy. In

Targeting the PDK1/c‐Myc/SOX10 Signaling in Oligodendrocytes Alleviates Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work reveals that oligodendrocyte homeostasis, mediated by PDK1, is a critical determinant of neuropathic pain (NPP) pathogenesis. Disruption of PDK1 in oligodendrocytes impairs SOX10‐dependent myelination programs through c‐Myc accumulation, leading to disrupted myelination and the pathophysiology of NPP.

Enhanced Glycolysis‐Driven Histone H3K18 Lactylation Regulates Epileptogenesis by Modulating the E3 Ubiquitin Ligase COP1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neuronal PKM2‐driven glycolysis generates excess lactate that triggers histone H3K18 lactylation (H3K18la), establishing a pathogenic metabolic‐epigenetic axis in epilepsy. Elevated H3K18la enriches the Cop1 promoter, transcriptionally upregulating the E3 ubiquitin ligase COP1, which subsequently drives proteasomal degradation of GABAARβ2 and impairs ...

Bayesian multi-modal model comparison: a case study on the generators of the spike and the wave in generalized spike–wave complexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present a novel approach to assess the networks involved in the generation of spontaneous pathological brain activity based on multi-modal imaging data.

Astrocytic Phenotypic Switching in Posterior Piriform Cortex Orchestrates Bone Cancer Pain–Depression Comorbidity via Purinergic–Noradrenergic Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bone cancer pain and depression share a common origin: astrocytic A2‐to‐A1 transition in the posterior piriform cortex. This phenotypic shift disrupts the ATP–adenosine–A2AR–norepinephrine axis, simultaneously driving nociceptive and affective dysfunction.

Ictal MEG-EEG Study to Localize the Onset of Generalized Seizures: To See Beyond What Meets the Eye

open access: yesBrain Sciences
Introduction: Patients with generalized epilepsy are rarely referred for advanced diagnostics like magnetoencephalography (MEG). This is due to the assumption that generalized seizures cannot be localized noninvasively.

A Case of anxiety disorder acquired subsequent to hot water epilepsy [PDF]

open access: yesDüşünen Adam Psikiyatri ve Nörolojik Bilimler Dergisi, 2014
Hot water epilepsy is a rarely seen type of reflex epilepsy. It is induced by the contact of very hot water to head while having a shower. Complex partial or generalized tonic-clonic seizures can be seen.
