Prevalence of diabetes and prediabetes among working-age adults and influencing factors of new-onset diabetes: a five-year cohort study (2018–2023)

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
BackgroundDiabetes and prediabetes in the young and middle-aged population represent a significant public health challenge in China. In recent years, the prevalence of diabetes has gradually increased within this group.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Stagewise Generalized Estimating Equations with Grouped Variables

open access: yesBiometrics, 2017
SummaryForward stagewise estimation is a revived slow-brewing approach for model building that is particularly attractive in dealing with complex data structures for both its computational efficiency and its intrinsic connections with penalized estimation.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Efficiency evaluation of quadratic inference functions in the analysis of longitudinal medical data

open access: yesRussian Open Medical Journal, 2018
Background ― In medical research, longitudinal studies have important and functional roles. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) is used for the analysis of longitudinal and correlated data required to determine the correlation structure among responses.

Discharge teaching, patient-reported discharge readiness and postsurgical outcomes in gynecologic patients undergoing day surgery: a generalized estimating equation

open access: yesBMC Surgery, 2022
Background Gynecologic patients undergoing day surgery are discharged in an intermediate stage of recovery. The quality of discharge teaching and discharge readiness are important to patients’ postsurgical outcomes, but little research has focused on ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Assessing the Use of GEE Methods for Analyzing Continuous Outcomes from Family Studies: Strong Heart Family Study

open access: yesEpidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health, 2023
Background: Because of its convenience and robustness, the generalized estimating equations (GEE) method has been commonly used to fit marginal models of continuous outcomes in family studies.
