Calculating and Comparing the Annualized Relapse Rate and Estimating the Confidence Interval in Relapsing Neurological Diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2022
Calculating the crude or adjusted annualized relapse rate (ARR) and its confidence interval (CI) is often required in clinical studies to evaluate chronic relapsing diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders. However,

On a Generalisation of Uniform Distribution and its Properties

open access: yesStatistica, 2016
Nadarajah et al.(2013) introduced a family life time models using truncated negative binomial distribution and derived some properties of the family of distributions. It is a generalization of Marshall-Olkin family of distributions.

ON KEMPTON’S GENERALIZATION OF THE NEGATIVE BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION

open access: yesMalaysian Journal of Science, 2019
This paper examines the properties, applications to empirical modelling and computation of probabilities of Kempton’s generalization of the negative binomial and log-series distributions.  The important properties of infinite divisibility and unimodality have been derived.

Evaluation of negative binomial and zero-inflated negative binomial models for the analysis of zero-inflated count data: application to the telemedicine for children with medical complexity trial

open access: yesTrials, 2023
Background Two characteristics of commonly used outcomes in medical research are zero inflation and non-negative integers; examples include the number of hospital admissions or emergency department visits, where the majority of patients will have zero ...

Adaptor protein CIN85 potentiates the motility of osteosarcoma cells via the Akt/mTOR and MMP2‐COL3A1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CIN85 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma, particularly in metastatic lesions. Its overexpression increases cell migration and Matrigel invasion, while silencing CIN85 suppresses these behaviors. Transcriptome analysis shows that CIN85 regulates MMP2, COL3A1, and Akt/mTOR signaling. Targeting these pathways reverses CIN85‐induced motility, highlighting

Risk factors associated with SARS-CoV-2 transmission, outbreak duration, and mortality in Fraser Health acute-care settings

open access: yesAntimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology, 2022
Background: Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in acute-care settings affects patients, healthcare workers, and the already-burdened healthcare system. An analysis of risk factors associated with outbreak severity was conducted to inform prevention strategies ...

IV Thrombolysis Facilitates Interventional Reperfusion in Non‐Cardioembolic but Not Cardioembolic Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) before thrombectomy for ischemic stroke may alter clot structure and procedural performance. We investigated how IVT relates to thrombectomy metrics across stroke etiologies. Methods We performed a time‐to‐event analysis of consecutive patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (acLVO ...

Circular Polya distributions of order k

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2003
Two circular Polya distributions of order k are derived by means of generalized urn models and by compounding, respectively, the type I and type II circular binomial distributions of order k of Makri and Philippou (1994) with the beta distribution. It is

RNA Sequencing Resolves Cryptic Pathogenic Variants in Mitochondrial Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial diseases are the most common inherited metabolic disorders, characterized by pronounced clinical and genetic heterogeneity that complicates molecular diagnosis. Although DNA‐based sequencing approaches have become standard in genetic testing, up to half of patients remain without a definitive diagnosis.
