Hierarchical IPF: Generating a synthetic population for Switzerland [PDF]

open access: yes

Generating Aerosols

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
The generation of aerosols has always been an important concern in studies of the hazards of inhaled materials. In recent years the need to generate aerosols for test purposes has spread into many areas of ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Generating functions: a useful tool for computing power indices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the theory of simple games, the study of power indices plays an important role. One of the main difficulties with these indices is that computation generally requires the sum of a very large number of terms.

Effect of Temperature Dropping During Reheat Treatments on GTD-111 Microstructure

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2012
The general standard reheat treatment condition to refurbishment long-term serviced turbine blades, which are made of cast nickel based superalloy, GTD-111, is usually following by solution treatment at 1438 K, 1458 K and 1478 K for 10.8 to 14.4 ks ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Generating transformation semigroups using endomorphisms of preorders, graphs, and tolerances

open access: yes, 2010
Let ΩΩ be the semigroup of all mappings of a countably infinite set Ω. If U and V are subsemigroups of ΩΩ, then we write U≈V if there exists a finite subset F of ΩΩ such that the subsemigroup generated by U and F equals that generated by V and F.
