Generating chaos via x|x|

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Fundamental Theory and Applications, 2001
Here, the authors discuss the existence of chaos for the following Duffing-like oscillator \[ \ddot x-ax +bx|x|=\varepsilon (-\zeta \dot x +c\sin (\omega t)) \] by using the Melnikov-function method. It is shown that the piecewise quadraticfunction \(x|x|\) can be seen as a chaos generator. Its physcial meaning as an energy function is explained.

Generalized filter fans X and the Baireness of C(X)

Topology and its Applications, 2023
Let \(X\) be a completely regular Hausdorff space and \(C_k(X)\) the space of all real-valued continuous functions on \(X\) with the compact-open topology. \textit{G. Gruenhage} and \textit{D. K. Ma} [Topology Appl. 80, No. 1--2, 131--139 (1997; Zbl 0886.54013)] introduced the Moving Off Property (MOP) to characterize when \(C_k(X)\) is Baire for the ...

Standardization of X-ray Generators

Radiology, 1969
A relatively simple method was devised which, when applied to the machines in our department, revealed voltage errors as large as 90 per cent in the 20–50 low kVp range (Fig. 1) and smaller errors in the tube current (mA) when measured (Fig. 2). The technic described herein consists of a high-precision bleeder tank to measure the kilovoltage peak, a ...

X-ray generation and control

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 1999
This article has focused on those aspects of X-ray generation that are of immediate concern to clinicians. Generators and tubes result from more than a century of basic technology, engineering design, and manufacturing know-how. How are the rotating anode bearings lubricated? Most tubes use ball bearings.

Let X = X: Generation X and world mission

Journal of Youth and Theology, 2002
The work of mission agencies is predominantly structured in a modernist fashion. The challenge of postmodernity and the cultural shifts experienced in the world of Generation X necessitates a fresh approach to world mission and evangelisation. This paper seeks to address some of the challenges raised by this issue with some pragmatic suggestions for ...
