A general framework for estimating the relative pathogenicity of human genetic variants

open access: yesNature Genetics, 2014
Current methods for annotating and interpreting human genetic variation tend to exploit a single information type (for example, conservation) and/or are restricted in scope (for example, to missense changes).

Resource conservation manifests in the genetic code

open access: yesScience, 2020
Maximizing elements for your genome The accumulation of mutations is typically limited by selective parameters. One such parameter is the elements needed to build proteins and molecules to maintain cells.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Enhancement of germination potential in lemon basil (Ocimum africanum Lour.) seeds using radiofrequency cold plasma treatment with oxygen, argon, and their combination

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background A rapid, cost-effective, and eco-friendly method was investigated to enhance the germination potential of lemon basil (Ocimum africanum Lour.) seeds using radiofrequency (RF) cold plasma treatment, addressing poor germination due to seed ...

Genetic variation in subdivided populations and conservation genetics [PDF]

open access: yesHeredity, 1986
The genetic differentiation of populations is usually studied by using the equilibrium theory of Wright's infinite island model. In practice, however, populations are not always in equilibrium, and the number of subpopulations is often very small.

Comparing RADseq and microsatellites for estimating genetic diversity and relatedness — Implications for brown trout conservation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
The conservation and management of endangered species requires information on their genetic diversity, relatedness and population structure. The main genetic markers applied for these questions are microsatellites and single nucleotide polymorphisms ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Profiles and roles of N6-methyladenosine modification in bovine oocyte maturation

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background Bovine oocyte quality is crucial for successful in vitro embryo production; therefore, elucidating the mechanisms underlying oocyte maturation is essential.
