On Improving Generalisation in Genetic Programming
2009This paper is concerned with the generalisation performance of GP. We examine the generalisation of GP on some well-studied test problems and also critically examine the performance of some well known GP improvements from a generalisation perspective.

An Improved Quantum Genetic Algorithm
2009 Third International Conference on Genetic and Evolutionary Computing, 2009Quantum genetic algorithm (QGA) is the combination between genetic algorithm and quantum computing. In this paper, a chromosome of the standard QGA is seen as a node and the chromosome population is regarded as a network. Then the reasons for the prematurity and the stagnation of the standard QGA are analyzed from the perspective of network structure ...

GENETIC RESOURCES AND IMPROVEMENT IN MACADAMIA
Acta Horticulturae, 2012Macadamia is an iconic Australian genus that has undergone recent domestication from the wild with genetic improvement underpinning the development of the crop. Edible kernels are produced by the species Macadamia integrifolia and M. tetraphylla, with the smaller M. ternifolia and M. jansenii kernel having elevated cyanogenic glucosides.

In Vitro Mutagenesis and Genetic Improvement
2011In vitro mutagenesis is an important technique which can induce stress tolerance and improve the yield and quality of crop plants. This chapter is an effort to review and compare the useful information obtained through in vitro mutation techniques, including somaclonal variation with the current achievements and future prospects.

Genetics of Food Crop Improvement
1976Man’s food-procuring habits underwent a change about ten thousand years ago when he began to select plants for food. He thus initiated the engineering of his food supply and laid the foundation for crop cultivation. His dependence on wild plants and hunted animals decreased as cultivated plants became a more dependable source of food.

Genetic improvement of railway timetables
1994We consider how to improve railway timetables. As case we take the Rompnet of the dutch railways, a highly constrained problem, containing both hard and soft constraints. We show how to cast the constraints into the format of the Genocop system. Every train should run every hour at the same time and hence the constraints should be interpreted modulo ...

Genetic Engineering in Crop Improvement
1991Several biotecnological intervents directed to the improvement of crop plants have been discussed in this chapter. The approaches thar are directlty related to the molecular engineering of plants and to the use of molecular probes in plant selection have been ...

Guiding Unconstrained Genetic Improvement
Proceedings of the 2016 on Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference Companion, 2016This paper argues that the potential for arbitrary transformation is what differentiates GI from other program transformation work. With great expressive power comes great responsibility, and GI has had mixed success finding effective program repairs and optimisations. The search must be better guided in order to improve solution quality.
