Genetic parameters for fleece uniformity in alpacas

Journal of Animal Science, 2023
Abstract Fiber diameter is the main selection objective and criterion in alpaca breeding programs, but it can vary across anatomic regions of the animal. As fiber diameter is usually registered from a unique sample from the mid side of the body, fiber diameter variability within fleece is never addressed and phenotypic and genetic ...

Band-structure parameters by genetic algorithm

Physical Review B, 1996
A genetic algorithm has been used to solve a complex multidimensional parameter-fitting problem. We will focus on the parameters of an empirical tight-binding Hamiltonian. The method is used to approximate the electronic energy band structure if energy values are known for a few wave vectors of high symmetry. Compared to the usual manual procedure this

Genetic Algorithm Parameter Analysis

Progress of Theoretical Physics Supplement, 2000
When a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to solve any optimization problem, the questions arise; how to implement it; what structure to use; how much weight to give to the three main processes (mutation, recombination and reproduction). 1) The present work is a part of a systematic study of the last question, in particular, what population size and ...

Inequality constrained estimation of genetic parameters

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1983
A method is presented for computing estimates of genetic parameters under linear inequality constraints such that solutions are within theoretical limits. The method produces biased estimators, yet a small scale numerical study, also presented, shows that the inequality constrained estimators have a small mean squared error of prediction than the best ...

Genetic adaptation of segmentation parameters

2008
This work presents a method for the automatic adaptation of segmentation parameters based on Genetic Algorithms. An intuitive and computationally simple fitness function, which expresses the similarity between the segmentation result and a reference provided by the user, is proposed.

Genetic Parameters

Genetic parameters represent fundamental measures that describe the genetic architecture of traits within populations. These parameters encompass a range of characteristics, including heritability, genetic correlation, and repeatability, crucial for understanding evolutionary processes, selective breeding, and genetic diversity conservation ...

Genetic and Phenotypic Parameters for Sow Productivity

Journal of Animal Science, 1984
Data from 609 purebred Yorkshire, Hampshire and Duroc litters were utilized to obtain genetic and environmental parameter estimates for litter number and weight traits at birth, 21 d (first creep) and 42 d (weaning) considered as traits of the sow. Differences among paternal half-sib sets of sows were analyzed.

Genetic Parameters for Testes Traits in Swine

Journal of Animal Science, 1984
Data were collected from 1,245 Duroc boars and 527 Yorkshire boars. This represents 128 Duroc and 57 Yorkshire sires. Body weights, testis length and combined testes width at 140 and 168 d were obtained. Of these boars, 432 were castrated at a later age to evaluate relationships between in situ measures and excised testis traits.

Optimal range segmentation parameters through genetic algorithms

Proceedings 15th International Conference on Pattern Recognition. ICPR-2000, 2002
A wide number of algorithms for surface segmentation in range images have been recently proposed characterized by different approaches (edge filling, region growing,...), different surface types (either for planar or curved surfaces) and different parameters involved.

Genetic parameters for eggshell traits in ostriches

British Poultry Science, 2012
1. A study was conducted on ~14000 ostrich eggs to estimate genetic parameters for eggshell traits that could benefit the hatchability of ostrich eggs. Traits measured included the number of pores on the eggshell, the average diameter of these pores, the total area of pores on the eggshell, permeability (pore area/shell thickness) and eggshell ...
