Variability in genetic parameters among small populations

open access: yesGenetical Research, 1977
SUMMARYFor a model in which quantitative traits are assumed to be determined solely by additive genes at many loci, formulae are developed for the variance among replicated small populations of sizeN, maintained without selection, of the additive genetic variance, heritability, genetic correlations and similar parameters. The base population is assumed

On the Implementation and Use of a Genetic Algorithm with Genetic Acquisitions [PDF]

open access: yes
A genetic algorithm is convergent when genetic mutations occur on the objective function gradient direction. These genetic mutations are called genetic acquisitions (Mateescu, 2005).

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Evolutionary associations between sand seatrout (Cynoscion arenarius) and silver seatrout (C. nothus) inferred from morphological characters, mitochondrial DNA, and microsatellite markers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The evolutionary associations between closely related fish species, both contemporary and historical, are frequently assessed by using molecular markers, such as microsatellites.

Effective therapeutic targeting of CTNNB1‐mutant hepatoblastoma with WNTinib

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
WNTinib, a Wnt/CTNNB1 inhibitor, was tested in hepatoblastoma (HB) experimental models. It delayed tumor growth and improved survival in CTNNB1‐mutant in vivo models. In organoids, WNTinib outperformed cisplatin and showed enhanced efficacy in combination therapy, supporting its potential as a targeted treatment for CTNNB1‐mutated HB.

Maternal effects on the genetic evaluation of Tabapuã beef cattle

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2004
The aim of this investigation was to study the influence of maternal effects on the genetic evaluation of sire production in Tabapuã beef cattle. Single and multiple trait analyses were done with adjusted animal weights at 120, 240 and 420 days of age ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

An analysis of the genetic relationship between udder health and udder conformation traits in South African Jersey cows

open access: yesAnimal, 2009
A multi-trait animal model was used to estimate genetic parameters among lactation somatic cell score (SCS) and udder-type traits in South African Jersey cattle, through restricted maximum likelihood (REML) procedures.

A simple model for the evolution of molecular codes driven by the interplay of accuracy, diversity and cost

open access: yes, 2008
Molecular codes translate information written in one type of molecules into another molecular language. We introduce a simple model that treats molecular codes as noisy information channels.
