Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

amlalejini/Empirical: ALife-2020-Genetic-Regulation

open access: yes, 2020
This is the version of Empirical used for our ALife 2020 SignalGP genetic regulation experiments. Note that this branch is a mash-up of Empirical's main branch + one of Emily Dolson's fork-branches that has up-to-date systematics ...

The BEL1-like transcription factor GhBLH5-A05 participates in cotton response to drought stress

open access: yesCrop Journal
Drought stress impairs crop growth and development. BEL1-like family transcription factors may be involved in plant response to drought stress, but little is known of the molecular mechanism by which these proteins regulate plant response and defense to ...

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

The genetic architecture of gene expression in Caenorhabditis elegans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Most organisms are exposed to a continuously changing environment throughout their life. For instance the ambient temperature is usually not constant and many species are exposed to a diverse range of anthropogenic stressors like toxic compounds ...

Transcriptome Analysis Reveals the Molecular Mechanisms by Which ADAMTS1 Influences the Proliferation of Ovarian Granulosa Cells in Sheep

open access: yesAnimals
Normal proliferation of ovarian granulosa cells is essential for follicular development. The results of this study showed that ADAMTS1 was primarily localized in the cytoplasm of granulosa cells in sheep ovarian follicles, as revealed by ...

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Long-Term Impairment of Sound Processing in the Auditory Midbrain by Daily Short-Term Exposure to Moderate Noise

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, 2017
Most citizen people are exposed daily to environmental noise at moderate levels with a short duration. The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of daily short-term exposure to moderate noise on sound level processing in the auditory ...

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.
