ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Genetic aspects of feed intake in lactating sows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Productivity of sows has increased worldwide, especially during the last decade. Sows have been changed genetically to produce larger litters. It was hypothesized that including feed intake or feed efficiency during lactation or both in the breeding ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

Restoring the argan ecosystem: an integrated analysis of degradation drivers, restoration strategies, and implementation gaps

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
The Arganeraie ecosystem (Argania spinosa L. Skeels), a key ecological, cultural, and socio-economic pillar of Morocco’s Anti-Atlas Mountains and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is facing severe decline characterized by rising mortality and the failure of ...

Genetic Prediction and Adverse Selection

open access: yesEconometrica
Recent advances have substantially improved our ability to predict disease risk with genetic data. In response, many countries have banned insurers from using genetic data, despite concerns about adverse selection. This paper measures adverse selection in a market where insurers can underwrite only on nongenetic information while consumers also have ...

Model-Based Problem Solving through Symbolic Regression via Pareto Genetic Programming. [PDF]

open access: yes
Pareto genetic programming methodology is extended by additional generic model selection and generation strategies that (1) drive the modeling engine to creation of models of reduced non-linearity and increased generalization capabilities, and (2 ...

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Classification of productive hair ewes using hematocrit as a marker of resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal
Background: The selection of sheep with high genetic resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes is a sustainable alternative for parasite control. Aim: This study was performed to categorize three breeds of hair sheep according to their resistance to ...

A Genetical Theory of Species Selection

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology, 1995
Species selection, differential rates of speciation or extinction resulting from species level characters, is often invoked as the main mechanism of macroevolution that is not simply an extension of microevolutionary processes. So long as we are careful in defining "species", the logic of species selection is sound.
