Genital herpes is a common sexually transmissible infection (STI) caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). Clinically, the infection presents with genital ulcers but may also be asymptomatic. The risk of genital HSV infection is associated with increasing number of sex partners, previous infection with another STI and female sex.
