Statistical Evaluation of Genome Rearrangement

2006
Genomic distances based on the number of rearrangement steps – inversions, transpositions, reciprocal translocations – necessary to convert the gene or segment order of one genome to that of another are potentially meaningful measures of evolutionary divergence.

Genomic rearrangements and sporadic disease

Nature Genetics, 2007
Many clinical phenotypes occur sporadically despite genetics contributing partly or entirely to their cause. To what extent are de novo mutations the cause of sporadic traits? Locus-specific mutation rates for genomic rearrangements appear to be two to four orders of magnitude greater than nucleotide-specific rates for base substitutions.
