Genomic diversity of the genus Stenotrophomonas [PDF]
The clinical and environmental importance of Stenotrophomonas bacteria requires thorough, molecular studies on their epidemiology and taxonomy. In order to obtain a complete genomic profile of this genus, over 100 Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strains from various origins were investigated by AFLP fingerprinting.

PolyTB: a genomic variation map for Mycobacterium tuberculosis [PDF]
Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is the second major cause of death from an infectious disease worldwide. Recent advances in DNA sequencing are leading to the ability to generate whole genome information in clinical isolates ...

Characterization of Autozygosity in Pigs in Three-Way Crossbreeding
Crossbreeding in livestock can be used to increase genetic diversity. The resulting increase in variability is related to the heterozygosity of the crossbred animal. The evolution of diversity during crossbreeding can be assessed using genomic data.

Reconstructing the maize leaf regulatory network using ChIP-seq data of 104 transcription factors
Transcriptional factors (TFs) bind in a combinatorial fashion to specify the on-and-off states of genes in a complex and redundant regulatory network. Here, the authors construct the transcription regulatory network in maize leaf using 104 TFs ChIP-seq ...

A quantitative account of genomic island acquisitions in prokaryotes [PDF]
Background Microbial genomes do not merely evolve through the slow accumulation of mutations, but also, and often more dramatically, by taking up new DNA in a process called horizontal gene transfer.

Mating system manipulation and the evolution of sex-biased gene expression in Drosophila
Sexual selection on males is thought to favour male-biased gene expression. Here, Veltsos et al. experimentally evolve Drosophila pseudoobscura under different mating systems and, contrary to expectation, most often find masculinization of the ...

Identification of superior parental lines for biparental crossing via genomic prediction.
A parental selection approach based on genomic prediction has been developed to help plant breeders identify a set of superior parental lines from a candidate population before conducting field trials.
