The chronic myeloid leukemia stem cell: stemming the tide of persistence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is caused by the acquisition of the tyrosine kinase BCR-ABL1 in a haemopoietic stem cell (HSC), transforming it into a leukaemic stem cell (LSC) that self-renews, proliferates and differentiates to give rise to a ...

Development of Genomic Surveillance Bioinformatics Modules

open access: yesOnline Journal of Public Health Informatics, 2015
Developing a modular approach to infectious disease genomic analysis that can easily integrate with public health analytics systems. Using dynamic approaches to genomic sequence analysis, relevant whole genome data can be quickly and accurately visualized and correlated, using a minimum of computational resources.

CDK4/6 Inhibition Induces CD8+ T Cell Antitumor Immunity via MIF‐Induced Functional Orchestration of Tumor‐Associated Macrophages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CDK4/6 inhibition promotes CD8+ T cell expansion through tumor‐macrophage crosstalk by activating HIF‐1α and enhancing MIF‐CD44/CD74 signaling. This reprograms TAMs to boost MHC‐I antigen presentation, and CDK4/6 inhibitor‐trained M1 TAM supernatant therapy synergizes with low‐dose PD‐1 blockade to restore antitumor immunity.

Genomic surveillance of dengue virus in Benin

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution
Dengue is a widespread viral infection transmitted from mosquitoes to humans, mainly in tropical and subtropical climates. In Benin, only dengue virus (DENV) serotype 2 infection has been previously described in humans. This study aimed to investigate DENV infection and serotypes in suspected patients.Plasma samples from 464 patients attending health ...

rWTC‐MBTA Vaccine, Alone and Enhanced with Anti‐PD1, Elicits Immune Responses against CNS and Peripheral B‐Cell Lymphoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An autologous whole‐tumor‐cell vaccine (rWTC‐MBTA) is evaluated in murine CNS lymphoma. Subcutaneous vaccination activates dendritic cells, broadens T‐cell priming, and drives lymphocyte trafficking to brain tumors, producing durable tumor control. Longitudinal bioluminescence and adoptive‐transfer assays verify CNS engagement. Combination with anti‐PD‐

Genomic surveillance reveals geographical heterogeneity and differences in known and novel insecticide resistance mechanisms in Anopheles arabiensis across Kenya

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background Insecticide resistance in disease vectors poses a significant threat to the control of transmission globally. In Anopheles mosquitoes, resistance has jeopardized gains made in malaria control and led to the resurgence of cases.

Genomic surveillance and evolution of Getah virus

open access: yesVirus Evolution
Abstract Getah virus (GETV), a member of the Alphaviruses, has spread widely and is expanding its host range worldwide, posing a serious threat to public health safety and the farming industry. However, genetic monitoring of GETV is inadequate, and its evolution and transmission remain unclear.

Engineering Osteoimmune Responses with Functionalized Orthopedic Implants for Post‐Operative Osteosarcoma Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor with limited treatment options and a terrible prognosis. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the recent development of osteoimmunomodulatory implants for post‐operative osteosarcoma treatment, of which the potential utility in evoking durable anti‐osteosarcoma immunity and accelerating bone
