Redirecting a Fungal Quercetin 2,3‐Dioxygenase Toward Artificial Flavonols

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, 27 March 2026.
A novel quercetin 2,3‐dioxygenase was engineered to reshape its substrate‐binding cavity and redirect its specificity toward artificial flavonols. One variant with a larger substrate‐binding cavity exhibited 20‐ to 1750‐fold higher activity toward bulky flavonols with phenyl‐based substitutions at position C‐8.

Metabolomic Profiling and Diet Quality Scoring in a Randomized Crossover Trial of Healthy and Typical Dietary Patterns

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 69, Issue 23, December 2025.
This cross‐over feeding trial identified 65 plasma and urine metabolites distinguishing a Healthy from a Typical Australian Diet. A composite metabolite score was linked to improved cardiometabolic markers. Results highlight distinct short‐term metabolomic signatures of diet quality, offering a promising tool for objective dietary assessment pending ...

Transcriptomic Analyses Unveil Hydrocarbon Degradation Mechanisms in a Novel Polar Rhodococcus sp. Strain R1B_2T From a High Arctic Intertidal Zone Exposed to Ultra‐Low Sulphur Fuel Oil

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2025.
Cold‐adapted Rhodococcus sp. strain R1B_2T from Arctic Tupirvik Beach (Northwest Passage) degrades short‐ to long‐chain hydrocarbons in summer seawater (−1°C to 5°C) via a synergistic activity of key hydrocarbon degradation genes (alkB, CYP153, almA, and ladA), with rhlABCR‐linked rhamnolipid production supporting biodegradation.

Dissecting Causal Relationships Between Gut Microbiota, Plasma Metabolites and Bladder Cancer: A Two‐Step Mendelian Randomization Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Previous studies have shown that gut microbiota is associated with bladder cancer. However, the causal relationships and potential mediating factors between the gut microbiota (GM) and bladder cancer (BCa) have not been well defined.

Biotechnological Production, Isolation and Characterisation of (2R,3S)‐2,3‐Dihydroxy‐2,3‐Dihydrobenzoate

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2025.
Several strategies for biotransformation are compared and a comprehensive analytical characterisation of the novel dihydrodiol is given. ABSTRACT Bacterial Rieske non‐heme iron oxygenases catalyse the transformation of a wide range of aromatic compounds to vicinal cis‐dihydrodiols.

Proteo‐metabolomic insights for early dual physical and cognitive impairments: A search for biomarkers of healthy aging based on muscle–brain crosstalk

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2025.
The study identified dysregulated fatty acid metabolism and inflammation as contributors to physio‐cognitive decline syndrome (PCDS). Sex‐specific metabolic disruptions were noted, with altered central carbon and tyrosine metabolism more pronounced in men and glutathione pathway perturbations more evident in women.
