Pearson correlation analysis of factors controlling the high abundance of rearranged hopanes in crude oils from the Southwest Depression of the Tarim Basin, China

open access: yes, 2020
Crude oil obtained from the Southwest Depression of the Tarim Basin contains high concentrations of rearranged hopanes. However, the geochemical factors controlling this phenomenon, and the correlation between the rearranged hopanes and other biomarkers ...

Research progress and current status of dynamic wave propagation characteristics in rock mass: A review

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This review elucidates the velocity–dispersion–attenuation coupling mechanisms of wave propagation in rock masses, compares six representative models, and reveals how pressure, temperature, mineral composition, and anisotropy jointly control dynamic responses in complex geological media.

Geochemical and geochronological investigations of the vumba granite-greenstone terrain of NE Botswana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
U-Pb SHRIMP ages were determined for five samples representative of various granitoid groups from the Vumba granite-greenstone terrain, south western margin of the Zimbabwe craton in NE Botswana. These age data range from 2733 ± 5 Ma or 2696 ± 3.5 Ma (if

Numerical investigation of natural fracture activation and leakage risk during CO2 sequestration in depleted sandstone reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates the hydro‐mechanical response and fracture evolution in depleted sandstone reservoirs during CO2 injection, considering both direct wellbore injection and hydraulic‐fracture‐assisted injection. The graphical abstract illustrates how CO2 injection induces dynamic stress redistribution, leading to natural fracture activation ...

Review of aluminum solubility behavior in the Hanford 200 South West Area tanks targeted for retrieval

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract The behavior of aluminum‐bearing phases in tank wastes from the southwest quadrant of the Hanford Site's 200 West Area primarily determines solids accumulation, retrieval performance, and downstream processability. This review synthesizes historical tank characterization data, laboratory dissolution studies, and process‐relevant observations ...

Petrogenesis of lavas from Detroit Seamount: Geochemical differences between Emperor Chain and Hawaiian volcanoes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The Hawaiian Ridge and Emperor Seamount Chain define a hot spot track that provides an 80 Myr record of Hawaiian magmatism. Detroit Seamount (∼76 to 81 Ma) is one of the oldest Emperor Seamounts.

Notable Impact of Paleotectonic Stress on Gold Mineralisation in the West Qinling Orogen

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
By applying fuzzy clustering and multiple inverse methods, we systematically processed the data of vein and fault slip in this ore deposit to reveal the transition of orogenic geological environment and paleotectonic stress field. Our research results show two different stress states: the northwest–southeast extensional stress field and the northeast ...

The Future of GEOROC: Database Curation for the Geochemical Community

open access: yes
The GEOROC database (Geochemistry of Rocks of the Oceans and Continents) was born in 1999 at the Max Planck Institute in Mainz (Germany) under the leadership of A. W. Hofmann and B. Sarbas. For 25 years, GEOROC has served the geochemical community. Since

Molecular Palaeontology Prospects From Exceptionally Preserved Eocene Brackish‐Water Bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis (Venerida: Corbiculidae) From Hokkaido, Japan

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
This study reports the exceptional preservation of the Eocene freshwater bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis from Hokkaido, Japan. Multimodal analyses reveal that both the aragonitic shell mineralogy and the delicate organic periostracum retain their original structural and chemical characteristics after millions of years.
