The Diffusion of Local Administrative Innovation: Investigating Municipal Climate Managers in the State of Hessen in Central Germany

open access: yesPublic Administration Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Many cities and municipalities aim to address climate change, yet their rigid administrative structures often constrain effective action. Therefore, local authorities must innovate to build administrative capacity and enable work across departmental silos. However, we lack knowledge of how such administrative innovations emerge and become more

Recognition of fossil keratose sponges in carbonates using petrographic and machine‐learning classification

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Filamentous, anastomosing spar‐filled networks in Phanerozoic carbonates have been interpreted as the mineralised remains of keratose (non‐spiculate) sponges, yet their recognition remains contested because fabrics of broadly similar appearance may arise from microbial, diagenetic or physical processes. This study combines direct fossil–modern

Physiological cerebrospinal fluid interactions between brain and eye structures are altered after long‐duration spaceflight

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Long‐duration spaceflight represents an extreme challenge, triggering adaptive responses including spaceflight‐associated neuro‐ocular syndrome, characterized by diminished visual acuity and ocular changes, which is a significant health risk for Mars missions.

The Long Shadow of Karl Weierstraß Over the Calculus of Variations

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT At first glance, it appears that the contents of Karl Weierstraß's (1815–1897) lecture courses on the calculus of variations were made available to the public only in the seventh volume of his Mathematische Werke, and thus not until 30 years after his death.

Context‐free graphs and their transition groups

open access: yesTransactions of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 13, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Starting from context‐free inverse graphs, we introduce a new class of groups and study their structural properties. We establish closure properties, show that their coword problems are context‐free, analyze torsion elements, and realize them as subgroups of the asynchronous rational group.

The 2025 Kamchatka Earthquake and Tsunami: Cascading Impacts and Risks to Japan

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 55, Issue 11, Page 2837-2854, September 2026.
ABSTRACT On July 29th, 2025, a large earthquake (Mw 8.8) occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula. This event caused a tsunami that reached Japan's Pacific coast, even though the source was far away. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of earthquakes and tsunamis and discuss how they relate to the recurrence possibility and risk in Japan.

Seroprevalence of Lumpy Skin Disease and Livestock Owners’ Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices in Selected Districts of Kazakhstan

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
A cross‐sectional study conducted in 12 districts across four regions of Kazakhstan assessed LSDV seropositivity in cattle and livestock owners’ knowledge, attitudes and practices. Serum samples from 338 cattle were tested by ELISA, and questionnaires were completed by 533 livestock owners. Animal‐level and herd‐level seroprevalence were 23.4% and 18.8%

Surface subgroups for cocompact lattices of isometries of H2n$\mathbb {H}^{2n}$

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract We prove the existence of surface subgroups within any cocompact lattice Γ$\Gamma$ in SO(2n,1)$\mathrm{SO}(2n,1)$ for n⩾2$n\geqslant 2$. This result addresses the cases missing from the work of Hamenstädt in 2015, who constructed surface subgroups in cocompact lattices for all other rank‐1 simple Lie groups of noncompact type.

Seismic Exploration for Magmatic Brine Lenses: An Example From Soufrière Hills Volcano, Montserrat

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract The majority of metallic ore deposits are related to processes associated with ancient or modern volcanic systems. Beyond geothermal energy production, volcanoes also represent a potential resource of critical metals, including those required for carbon‐neutral technologies. Geothermal metals occur in subsurface fluid reservoirs fed by surface

Dike‐Induced Earthquakes as Probes of the Local Stress Field Prior to the 1998 Eruption of the Piton de la Fournaise Volcano, La Réunion

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract Volcano‐tectonic (VT) earthquakes generated during dike propagation provide useful constraints on stress changes in volcanic systems. During the 1998 pre‐eruptive unrest at Piton de la Fournaise, ∼600 VT earthquakes were recorded. Using manually picked first‐motion polarities and corrected station metadata, we calculated more than 400 high ...
