Accounting for Earth's curvature and elevation in animal movement modeling. [PDF]
Abstract Animals move in three dimensions, yet movement models do not capture the third dimension when data are collected as longitude and latitude coordinates (only) and models are developed in two dimensions. Here, we ask the question to what extent topography and the shape of the Earth—its ellipsoidal shape—affect the quantification of animal ...

A note on frame transformations with applications to geodetic datums [PDF]
Rigorous equations in compact symbolic matrix notation are introduced to transform coordinates and velocities between ITRF frames and modern GPS-based geocentric geodetic datums. The theory is general but, after neglecting higher than second-order terms, it is shown that the equations revert to the formulation currently applied in most major ...

Derivation of rigorously-conformal 7-parameter 3D geodetic datum transformations [PDF]
This paper proposes a new method of deriving rigorously-conformal 7-parameter 3D coordinate transformations between geodetic datums. The problem of linearisation is reduced by distance analysis which provides an estimate of scale-change.

The Geocentric Orientation Vector for the Australian Geodetic Datum [PDF]
Summary The geocentric orientation vector is defined for the Australian Geodetic Datum on the assumption that the geoid has the same potential as the value on Reference Ellipsoid 1967 on adopting Reference System 1967. It is shown that only the free air geoid need be considered to provide the required definition in the Australian region with a ...

Coordinate systems, geodetic datums and coordinate transformation [PDF]
This article makes an effort to define some types of coordinate systems and geodetic datums. Also it points out the importance of making connection between the local datum in which all state maps are prepared and the geocentric datum in which GPS works.

Triangle-based Horizontal Geodetic Datum Transformations in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The article describes the procedure for transformation between old and new horizontal geodetic datum in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Two triangle-based methods were used for transformation, which are based on irregular and regular triangular network.
