Towards an ‘absolute’ timing of biostratigraphic and environmental phases from the Saalian late glacial to the Weichselian pleniglacial in central Europe—Insights from a lacustrine succession in Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.

Monitoring of geomagnetic disturbances using the global survey method in real time

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics, 2019
A method for forecasting geomagnetic storms using the realization of the global survey method in real time is presented. The method is based on data from the worldwide network of neutron monitors NMDB.

Geomagnetic disturbance effects on satellite attitude estimation

open access: yesActa Astronautica, 2021
Abstract This study investigates the effects of magnetic disturbances resulting from geospace storms on the satellite attitudes estimated by EKF. It is shown that the increasing levels of geomagnetic activity affect geomagnetic field vectors predicted by IGRF and T89 models.

Fish welfare in a changing world: New developments and current challenges

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The welfare of non‐human animals is central to ethical discussions on animal use, with increasing attention to fish welfare across research, aquaria, aquaculture, and fisheries. This paper reviews current theoretical approaches to animal welfare and recent advances in defining and assessing fish welfare since the seminal paper by Huntingford ...

Modeling of Magnetic Local Time Asymmetry in Storm‐Time Low‐Latitude Geomagnetic Field Disturbances Due To Partial Ring Current

open access: yesSpace Weather
The intensity of storm‐time disturbance in the ground magnetic field varies significantly at different longitudes due to the magnetic local time (MLT) dependent contributions from different magnetospheric and ionospheric currents. Local geomagnetic field

Geomagnetic conjugate observations of ionospheric disturbances in response to a North Korean underground nuclear explosion on 3 September 2017 [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2019
We report observations of ionospheric disturbances in response to a North Korean underground nuclear explosion (UNE) on 3 September 2017. By using data from IGS (International GNSS Service) stations and Swarm satellites, geomagnetic conjugate ionospheric

The dawn−dusk asymmetry in mesosphere and lower thermosphere temperature disturbances during geomagnetic storms at high latitude

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics
Utilizing observations by the Sounding of the Atmosphere using Broadband Emission Radiometry (SABER) instrument, we quantitatively assessed the dawn–dusk asymmetry in temperature disturbances within the high-latitude mesosphere and lower thermosphere ...

Direct Observations of Large‐Scale Wave Structure and Post‐Sunset Rise of the Ionosphere in the Generation of Equatorial Spread F

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Large‐scale wave structure (LSWS) and the post‐sunset rise (PSSR) are two key factors in the generation of equatorial spread F (ESF). In this study, we reported continuous and direct observations of LSWS and PSSR and their effects on seeding ESF by Sanya incoherent scatter radar (SYISR) and ionosonde in September–October 2024.

Monitoring of near-Earth space, Earth’s magnetosphere and atmosphere during Forbush decreases in August 2005

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics
We present the results of near-Earth interplanetary space, magnetosphere, and atmosphere monitoring during large-scale solar wind disturbances at the end of August 2005.

First Kinetic 3‐D Simulations of the High‐Latitude Electrojet Spanning an Entire Turbulent Flux Tube

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Radar and rocket observations of the terrestrial ionosphere frequently measure turbulent plasma waves, especially during geospace storms. The non‐linear behavior of these waves remains poorly characterized. This paper presents the first fully kinetic 3‐D particle‐in‐cell simulations of Farley–Buneman (FB) turbulence spanning an entire high ...
