Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Experimental analysis of swirl number and nozzle design for scale-up of partially cracked ammonia flames

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science
Due to its ease of storage and existing global distribution network, interest in the use of renewably produced ammonia for decarbonising energy systems is growing.

A phase III, randomised, double‐blind, multi‐national clinical trial comparing SB12 (proposed eculizumab biosimilar) and reference eculizumab in patients with paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria

open access: yeseJHaem, 2023
Treatment of paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) includes the monoclonal antibody eculizumab. This randomised, double‐blind, multi‐national cross‐over Phase III study in PNH patients aimed to demonstrate the equivalence of the proposed eculizumab ...

The symplectic geometry of higher Auslander algebras: Symmetric products of disks

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Sigma, 2021
We show that the perfect derived categories of Iyama’s d-dimensional Auslander algebras of type ${\mathbb {A}}$ are equivalent to the partially wrapped Fukaya categories of the d-fold symmetric product of the $2$-dimensional unit disk with finitely many ...

Unoriented topological quantum field theory and link homology

open access: yes, 2006
We investigate link homology theories for stable equivalence classes of link diagrams on orientable surfaces. We apply (1+1)-dimensional unoriented topological quantum field theories to Bar-Natan's geometric formalism to define new theories for stable ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Complexity measures from geometric actions onVirasoro and Kac-Moody orbits

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
We further advance the study of the notion of computational complexity for 2d CFTs based on a gate set built out of conformal symmetry transformations.

The Fundamental Lepage Form in Two Independent Variables: A Generalization Using Order-Reducibility

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
A second-order generalization of the fundamental Lepage form of geometric calculus of variations over fibered manifolds with 2-dimensional base is described by means of insisting on (i) an equivalence relation “Lepage differential 2-form is closed if and
