This chapter focuses on five main literature models of geometric tolerance analysis – vector loop, variational, matrix, Jacobian, and torsor – and makes a comparison between them in order to highlight the advantages and the weaknesses of each, with the goal of providing a criterion for selecting the most suitable one, depending on the application.

Error-Tolerant Geometric Graph Similarity
2018Graph matching is the task of computing the similarity between two graphs. Error-tolerant graph matching is a type of graph matching, in which a similarity between two graphs is computed based on some tolerance value whereas within exact graph matching a strict one-to-one correspondence is required between two graphs.

Dimensioning with Geometrical Tolerances
2020The advantages of the geometric specification of a product are here illustrated by converting a traditional 2D coordinate tolerancing drawing using the geometrical tolerance method. The new language of symbols permits the functional requirements of the products to be fully expressed in technical documentation.

A New Approach to Statistical Geometrical Tolerance Analysis
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 1999As a first step in developing a synthesis technique for assisting designers to specify tolerances in product design, a new 3D statistical tolerance analysis approach is proposed A simple two-hale and two-pin (THTP) assembly is used as an example. On the basis of the introduction of an R-vector to represent position tolerance and a feasible assembly ...

Error-tolerant geometric graph similarity and matching
Pattern Recognition Letters, 2019Abstract Geometric graph matching is the process of evaluating the similarity between geometric graphs, where each vertex has an associated coordinate point in a plane. Exact matching computes a strict correspondence between two geometric graphs, whereas in error-tolerant matching an approximate similarity between two geometric graphs is computed. In

Economic Aspects in the Inspection of Multiple Geometric Tolerances
Volume 4: Advanced Manufacturing Processes; Biomedical Engineering; Multiscale Mechanics of Biological Tissues; Sciences, Engineering and Education; Multiphysics; Emerging Technologies for Inspection and Reverse Engineering; Advanced Materials and Tribology, 2012Recent years have seen an increase in the adoption of geometric tolerances. Often it is possible to find several geometric tolerances defined on a single part. However, this poses inspection issues: the values of the geometric errors may be interrelated; therefore, the presence of multiple tolerances should be considered in inspection design.

A geometric approach of form tolerance formulation and evaluation
Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.98CH36146), 2002We first present a unified geometric formulation of form tolerances using an extended least-squares (E-LSQ) approach. Then, using properties of configuration space of symmetric features an iterative algorithm is developed to solve the E-LSQ problem. Simulation results show that the algorithm not only keeps computational efficiency of the least-squares ...

3D Tolerance analysis involving geometric tolerances
2001This paper deals with 3D tolerance analysis involving dimensional and geometric tolerances. The tolerances connected with each component of an assembly are simulated by varying randomly the geometry of its part geometric model features. In particular, an original software has been developed to analyse the influence of the tolerances on the geometry of ...

A Mathematical Model for Geometric Tolerances
Journal of Mechanical Design, 1993This paper presents a mathematical model for specifying geometric tolerances. This model along with a syntax of tolerance specification will be referred to as the Tolerance Specification Language (TSL). TSL can be used to interpret ANSI Y14.5 geometric tolerancing specifications. The formalization of TSL is based on a set theoretic approach, especially

Statistical Analysis of Geometrical Tolerances: A Case Study
Quality Engineering, 2005ABSTRACT Tolerancing is one of the most important but complex activities in design. Tolerance information takes place at every phase of design activity. It represents the fundamental link between the theoretical model of the mechanical product and the actual one.
