Geometric Thinking of Malaysian Elementary School Students

open access: yesInternational Journal of Instruction, 2019
Geometry is one of the basic skills to be mastered in Malaysian mathematics education. However, there is not much information on geometry attainment of the elementary school students based on van Hiele's levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the van Hiele's levels of geometric thinking among the elementary school learners.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Did Lobachevsky Have A Model Of His "imaginary Geometry"? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The invention of non-Euclidean geometries is often seen through the optics of Hilbertian formal axiomatic method developed later in the 19th century. However such an anachronistic approach fails to provide a sound reading of Lobachevsky's geometrical ...

Poincaré on the Foundation of Geometry in the Understanding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper is about Poincaré’s view of the foundations of geometry. According to the established view, which has been inherited from the logical positivists, Poincaré, like Hilbert, held that axioms in geometry are schemata that provide implicit ...

Examination of 9th Graders' Levels of Geometric Thinking

open access: yesInternational Journal of Research in Education and Science, 2023
Robust understanding of geometry is important for students’ future studies in mathematical sciences, many careers, and for understanding the world around them. Therefore, the aim of this study was to understand the geometric thinking levels of 9th graders in Ghana before they enter the Senior High School. This study used the van Hiele theory (Van Hiele-

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

A comparison of Hejný levels of the development of student's geometric thinking with the van Hiele levels

open access: yesJournal of Modern Science, 2018
The paper begins with a short description of phenomenological ideas of Petr Vopěnka concerning the development of children’s geometric concepts and his notion of personality of a phenomen, which makes the phenomenon an individual entity.

Hermann Cohen’s logic of the pure knowledge as a philosophy of science

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Philosophy, 2022
The connection of Hermann Сohen’s “The Logic of Pure Knowledge” with the revolutionary transformations in physics and mathematics at the end of the 19th century is shown. Сohen criticised Kant’s answer to the question “How is mathematics possible”?

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Ostrogradski approach for the Regge-Teitelboim type cosmology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present an alternative geometric inspired derivation of the quantum cosmology arising from a brane universe in the context of {\it geodetic gravity}.
