Torsional strain-induced microstructural control in magnesium alloys: A pathway to enhanced mechanical performance

open access: yesMaterials & Design
To achieve a strength-ductility synergy in extruded ZM6 magnesium alloy, three torsion-dominated heterogeneous plastic deformation processes were proposed. The deformation mechanisms and the evolution of microstructure, texture, twin volume fraction (TVF)

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Phase reversion mediated the dual heterogeneity of grain size and dislocation density in an equiatomic CrCoNi medium-entropy alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
An ultra-high strain rate (104 s−1) dynamic plastic deformation treatment at liquid nitrogen temperature (LNT-DPD) followed by annealing is carried out to obtain dual heterogeneity of grain size and dislocation density in an equiatomic CrCoNi medium ...

Topology and Material Optimization in Ultra‐Soft Magneto‐Active Structures: Making Advantage of Residual Anisotropies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Residual magnetization induces pronounced mechanical anisotropy in ultra‐soft magnetorheological elastomers, shaping deformation and actuation even without external magnetic fields. This study introduces a computational‐experimental framework integrating magneto‐mechanical coupling into topology optimization for designing soft magnetic actuators with ...

Thermodynamic Limits to Molecular Doping in Conjugated Polymers: A Perspective on Phase Behavior and Miscibility

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular doping of conjugated polymers is fundamentally constrained by thermodynamic phase behavior. This Perspective reframes doping efficiency and stability in terms of miscibility limits, binodals, and solvus boundaries, highlighting the role of effective interaction parameters and charge transfer.

Design of multi-heterogeneous structure and synergistic enhancement of strength-plasticity in Ti-6Al-4V alloy

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
A multi-heterogeneous microstructure (MHM) composed of large equiaxed α (αeqL), small equiaxed α (αeqS), dispersed α and lamellar α was designed through hot-rolling and aging treatment on bimodal microstructure (BM) in TC4 titanium alloy. The formed αeqS

Rethinking Charge Transport and Recombination in Donor‐Diluted Organic Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Organic solar cells with 1–45% PM6 content in Y12 were studied to link structure and charge dynamics to performance. The conductivity follows a 3D percolation model without a sharp threshold. Donor dilution preserves the photogeneration yield, but limits the fill factor due to transport resistance losses.

Modeling plastic deformation of TWIP steel using cohesive zone and crystal plasticity finite element

open access: yesMaterials & Design
In this research, the cohesive zone model-crystal plasticity finite element (CZM-CPFE) method was applied to reveal the influence mechanism of grain boundaries (GBs) and grains on the mechanical properties of fine/ultrafine grained TWIP steels.
