Archival geomorphological mapping in the age of digital cartography

open access: yes, 2012
Inicjatywa wznowienia prac nad dokończeniem przerwanego w końcu lat 60. kartowania geomorfologicznego Polski w skali 1:50 000 zainspirowała autorów do przedstawienia propozycji wykorzystania materiałów archiwalnych, pochodzących z kartowania ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Morphometric characteristics of block streams: A case study of the Vladayska River basin, Vitosha Mountain (Bulgaria) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Bulgarian Geographical Society
Block streams, also known as stone rivers, are common periglacial landforms in the alpine and subalpine zone of the Balkan Peninsula. These features are especially widely spread in the valleys, slopes and summit of Vitosha Mountain.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Geomorphological mapping of granite caves

open access: yes, 2013
The aim is to develop a mapping which represents the relief and the form (morphology) of granite caves and associated superficial structures. As such, it is a representation of the forms and microforms present in the volume that forms the cave (wall ...

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Techniques, problems and uses of mega-geomorphological mapping

open access: yes, 1985
A plea for a program of global geomorphological mapping based on remote sensing data is presented. It is argued that the program is a necessary step in bringing together the rapidly evolving concepts of plate tectonics with the science of geomorphology ...
