Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Land-Use and Height of Pollen Sampling Affect Pollen Exposure in Munich, Germany

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
Airborne pollen concentrations vary depending on the location of the pollen trap with respect to the pollen sources. Two Hirst-type pollen traps were analyzed within the city of Munich (Germany): one trap was located 2 m above ground level (AGL) and the ...

A comprehensive experimental and simulation study of ignition delay time characteristics of single fuel C1–C2 hydrocarbons over a wide range of temperatures, pressures, equivalence ratios, and dilutions

open access: yes, 2020
A comprehensive experimental and modeling study of the ignition delay time (IDT) characteristics of some single prominent C1–C2 hydrocarbons including methane, ethane, and ethylene has been performed over a wide range of temperatures (∼800–2000 K ...

Influence of the relative molecular orientation on interfacial charge-transfer excitons at donor/acceptor nanoscale heterojunctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We address the impact of the relative orientation between donor (D) and acceptor (A) molecules at the D/A heterojunction on the exciton dissociation. For this purpose, two-dimensional heterojunctions of diindenoperylene (DIP) and N,N'-dioctyl-3,4,9,10 ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Near-field mechanism of the enhanced broadband magneto-optical activity of hybrid Au loaded Bi:YIG [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We unravel the underlying near-field mechanism of the enhancement of the magneto-optical activity of bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet films (Bi:YIG) loaded with gold nanoparticles. The experimental results show that the embedded gold nanoparticles

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
