Background reduction and sensitivity for germanium double beta decay experiments
Germanium detectors have very good capabilities for the investigation of rare phenomena like the neutrinoless double beta decay. Rejection of the background entangling the expected signal is one primary goal in this kind of experiments.

New constraints on WIMPs from the Canfranc IGEX dark matter search [PDF]
The IGEX Collaboration enriched 76Ge double-beta decay detectors are currently operating in the Canfranc Underground Laboratory with an overburden of 2450 m.w.e. A recent upgrade has made it possible to use them in a search for WIMPs.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

A high resolution semiconductor detector for applications in space [PDF]
Nuclear radiation detectors with volumes of approximately 1 cu cm was fabricated from single crystals of germanium-silicon alloy containing as much as 20 weight percent germanium. The properties of these detectors were investigated and will be discussed.

Germanium-on-silicon mid-infrared arrayed waveguide grating multiplexers [PDF]
In this letter, we describe the use of a germanium-on- silicon waveguide platform to realize an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) operating in the 5 mu m wavelength range, which can be used as a wavelength multiplexer for mid-infrared (midIR) light engines

Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Molecular Dynamics Investigation of the Mechanical Properties of Germanium Reinforced with Iron Nanoparticles at Different Speeds [PDF]
Considering the wide application of germanium in nano devices and its high density compared to silicon and the possibility of its dislocation and diffusion in grain boundaries, improving its properties is of great importance. In this study, with the help

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.
