Continuous data assimilation for the Richards equation of unsaturated flow: A computational study

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 25, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Abstract Azouani–Olson–Titi data assimilation (often referred to as AOT, after its authors) is a computationally‐efficient algorithm that has been shown analytically and computationally to recover the true solution for a wide variety of regimes exponentially fast in time, in addition to being robust with respect to noisy data, stochastic forcing, and ...

Assimilation of nearly turbulent Rayleigh-B\'enard flow through vorticity or local circulation measurements: a computational study

open access: yes, 2017
We introduce a continuous (downscaling) data assimilation algorithm for the 2D B\'enard convection problem using vorticity or local circulation measurements only. In this algorithm, a nudging term is added to the vorticity equation to constrain the model.

The Role of Participatory Forest Management on Forest Composition, Diversity, and Regeneration: A Study of Guangua Elala Forest, Northwestern Ethiopia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Forestry Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Participatory forest management (PFM) is increasingly recognized as an effective approach for forest conservation and sustainable resource use in Ethiopia, yet empirical evidence of its ecological outcomes remains limited. This study assessed the effects of PFM on forest composition, diversity, and regeneration in the Guangua Elala Forest, Northwestern

The Uses, Nutritional Advantages, and Challenges of Traditional Fermented Alcoholic Beverages for Indigenous Communities in Ethiopia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Traditional fermented alcoholic beverages (TFABs) are an integral part of Ethiopian culture, serving as food and recreational sources and vital elements of social, religious, and ceremonial events. Ethiopia is known for its wide variety of TFABs, which are made using indigenous knowledge handed down through generations.

Pregnancy Outcomes in Rats Treated With 70% Alcoholic Rhamnus prinoides Leaf Extract: Evidence From a Teratogenicity Study

open access: yesJournal of Toxicology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Rhamnus prinoides is widely used to produce traditional beverages consumed by pregnant women and for the treatment of various diseases. Scientific evidence regarding the safety profile, especially during pregnancy, of R. prinoides is limited. Thus, this study investigated the toxic effect of R. prinoides on pregnancy outcomes.

Smallholder Supply Response and Gender in Ethiopia: A Profit Function Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Empirical studies on gender and agricultural productivity are typically based on production function estimates of a single crop or aggregate output, ignoring the role of prices and endogeneity of input choice.

One-dimensional parametric determining form for the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations

open access: yes, 2016
The evolution of a determining form for the 2D Navier-Stokes equations (NSE), which is an ODE on a space of trajectories is completely described. It is proved that at every stage of its evolution, the solution is a convex combination of the initial ...

Traditional Versus Improved Varieties of Seed: Is There a Trade‐Off Between Productivity and Risk?

open access: yesReview of Development Economics, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 1921-1939, August 2025.
ABSTRACT We examine how the choice of seed technology—between traditional and improved varieties—impacts crop revenue and the cost of risk in a setting characterized by high uncertainty. The methodological approach combines computation of crop revenue and cost of risk based on moment‐based approximation of a stochastic production function, with a ...
