The faecal flora of the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)

Journal of Applied Bacteriology, 1989
The faecal floras of two adult (male and female) and one infant (male) giant panda kept at the Ueno Zoo, Tokyo, Japan were examined and shown to be quite different from those of other animals. The predominant bacteria in the adults were Streptococcus (including ...

Spatial memory recall in the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).

Journal of Comparative Psychology, 2009
The current study tested spatial memory recall in 1 male and 1 female giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). The task required subjects to make a delayed response to a previously lighted location, with varying lengths of delay between the observation phase and the test phase. The male subject reached criterion at 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, and 10-s delays. The

Transcriptome Analysis Reveals the Alternative Splicing Changes in the Immune-Related Genes of the Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), in Response to the Canine Distemper Vaccine

Zoological Science, 2022
Canine distemper virus (CDV) is a highly fatal virus to the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). Although vaccination is a key preventative measure in captive giant pandas, the immune response of giant pandas after vaccination remains unclear. Therefore,

Preliminary urinary profiles of prolactin during gestation and the synergistic effects of embryonic diapause hormones in the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)

Biology of Reproduction
The embryonic diapause of the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) has caused great difficulties in monitoring pregnancy in this vulnerable species. The secretion of prolactin (PRL) from anterior pituitary glandular lactotropic cells is an important ...

Chemical Signals in Giant Panda Urine (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)

2016
The Giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a conservation reliant endangered species and it is of increasing importance to establish a self-sustaining panda bear population in breeding stations and zoos. However, the major problem of captive breeding is missing motivation in male pandas and/or their inability to achieve intromission.

Dental Abnormalities in Eight Captive Giant Pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) in China

Journal of Comparative Pathology, 2012
Dental data from eight adult giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) (four females and four males) were collected at the Beijing Zoo from February 2009 to July 2010. Examination findings were recorded in dental charts. All the pandas had different degrees of tooth wear. Incisors, canines and second premolars had the most abnormalities.

Chemical Cues Identify Gender and Individuality in Giant Pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)

Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2003
The Giant panda communicates with conspecifics by depositing a mixture of volatile compounds (called scent marks) on trees and rocks. Using mass spectrometry, we identified 951 chemical components from scent glands, urine, vaginal secretions, and scent marks made by pandas.

Analysis of nutritional profiles in colostrum and mature milk of giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) based on proteomics

International Journal of Dairy Technology
Breast milk plays a crucial role in giant panda growth (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). This study aimed to analyse nutritional profiles in colostrum and mature milk.

ANESTHESIA IN CAPTIVE GIANT PANDAS (AILUROPODA MELANOLEUCA) WITH MEDETOMIDINE-KETAMINE

Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine
One male and one female giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) from a Belgian zoo were anesthetized on eight different occasions over a course of 4 yr for electro-ejaculation (n = 3) or artificial insemination (n = 5). Medetomidine (0.03-0.04 mg/kg) and ketamine (2.5-3 mg/kg) were administered by intramuscular remote injection.

cDNA cloning and expression of ghrelin in giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)

Molecular Biology Reports, 2009
Ghrelin is an endogenous ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor. It plays an important role in stimulating growth hormone secretion, food intake, body weight gain and gastric motility. cDNA sequences coding for ghrelin precursor protein (prepro-ghrelin) were isolated from the stomach of a giant panda.
