Histiocytes: Multifaceted Regulators of Health and Disease

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.

Ecological implications and lessons from high pathogenicity avian influenza H5N1 2.3.4.4b in Antarctica

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 3, July–September 2026.
HPAI H5N1 was confirmed in 22 South Polar Skuas and one Kelp Gull on Dismal and Horseshoe Islands, Marguerite Bay, Western Antarctic Peninsula in early 2025, with high mortalities consistent with global trends. Rapid antigen tests showed 90% agreement with rRT‐PCR, supporting their utility for early detection in remote environments.

Contradicting Kuhn's Popular Notion of Scientific Revolution: Conservative Revolutionaries in the History of Biology

open access: yesNatural Sciences, Volume 6, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Proposing the concept of a conservative revolutionary generally and using the examples of Gregor Mendel, Max Delbrück, and Eric Davidson, I fundamentally call into question Thomas Kuhn's ideas of scientific revolutions. I also highlight some problematic consequences of the increasing appreciation of Kuhn's work among scientists and show that ...

Higher Body Mass Index Is a Causal Risk Factor for Skin Infections: A Mendelian Randomisation Study Using UK Biobank and FinnGen

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 7, Page 5907-5914, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Infections remain a leading cause of mortality and morbidity globally. We aimed to evaluate the potential causal role of higher BMI on common bacterial, viral and fungal infections using Mendelian randomisation (MR). Material and Methods In UK Biobank (N = 502 131, N = 230 542 with linked GP records), we tested observational associations ...

Es werde Licht! Licht als Antrieb und Regulator in synthetischen Zellen

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 24, 8 June 2026.
