An autonomous network of acoustic detectors to map tiger risk by eavesdropping on prey alarm calls

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Tiger population recovery brings with it increased fatalities from human‐tiger conflict. We describe a network of autonomous intelligent passive acoustic sensors that monitor the forest for deer alarm calls as a proxy for tiger risk and provide a risk map to local communities in real‐time.

Self‐Incandescent Heating‐Driven Microstructural Consolidation of Biscrolled Cu/CNT Yarns for Reduced Frequency‐Dependent AC Resistance

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Self‐incandescent heating (SIH) induces microstructural consolidation in biscrolled Cu/CNT yarns, resulting in improved electrical conductivity, a smaller frequency‐dependent increase in AC resistance within the measured range, and stable electrical performance under repeated bending.

Size effects in gigacycle fatigue of high-strength steel under ultrasonic fatigue testing

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2010
AbstractUltrasonic fatigue testing was conducted for high-strength steel using enlarged specimens with a straight section. The results showed good agreement with conventional servo-hydraulic fatigue test results under conditions where fish-eye fracture occurs, showing the validity of ultrasonic fatigue testing using the enlarged specimens.

Deep Learning for Endoscopic Classification of Adenoid Hypertrophy

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Endoscopy is a convenient and widely used method to evaluate adenoid size, but the subjectivity of its image diagnosis can result in over‐ or underestimation. To create a new assessment strategy for adenoid hypertrophy, we developed a reliable method for automated classification using a deep learning algorithm with nasal endoscopic ...

Assessing physiological, behavioral and movement responses to Suprelorin implant delivery methods in free‐ranging eastern grey kangaroos Macropus giganteus

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Overabundant populations of eastern grey kangaroos Macropus giganteus in peri‐urban areas pose ecological and social challenges. Current management strategies are often hindered by animal welfare and logistical concerns. This study aimed to assess stress responses of kangaroos to two contraceptive delivery methods.

Crack path in aeronautical titanium alloy under ultrasonic torsion loading

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2015
This paper discusses features of fatigue crack initiation and growth in aeronautical VT3-1 titanium alloy under pure torsion loading in gigacycle regime. Two materials: extruded and forged VT3-1 titanium alloys were studied.
