Determination of Optimal Acoustic Passive Reflectors to Reduce Bycatch of Odontocetes in Gillnets
The need to minimize bycatch of toothed whales (odontocetes) in gillnets has long been recognized, because they are often top predators and thus essential to ecosystem resilience.

Does nature shape risk preferences? Evidence from Chile, Norway, and Tanzania
Abstract Does exposure to a more risky environment affect risk preferences? Going beyond single‐case study evidence, we report results from five surveys conducted in three countries and link this with administrative data to study whether a link between exposure and preferences is detectable and widespread. We find no evidence for endogenous preferences

Selection due to nonretention mortality in gillnet fisheries for salmon [PDF]
AbstractFisheries often exert selective pressures through elevated mortality on a nonrandom component of exploited stocks. Selective removal of individuals will alter the composition of a given population, with potential consequences for its size structure, stability and evolution. Gillnets are known to harvest fish according to size.

Lack of Compliance in Gillnet Fisheries Regulations Increases Risk to a Vulnerable Species
ABSTRACT This article presents an analysis of regulatory compliance in a Brazilian gillnet fishery, based on Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) tracking data. Satellite transmissions records, interpreted as proxies for gillnet haulings events, were analyzed and classified using a neural network to assess the level of compliance of the gillnet fleet.

ANALYSIS OF ECONOMIC MODEL OF TERASAK FISHERMAN’S HOUSEHOLD AT MADURA STRAIT
In dry season, the income level of fishermen is very minimal and they often do not get any catches at all. In periods of low income, fishermen's wives and children usually have to fight hard to earn money by doing all the work that brings income.

Monitoring-System Development for a Bottom-Set Gillnet through Time-Domain Dynamic Simulations
This paper investigates the sensor-based monitoring feasibility of a bottom-set gillnet through time-domain dynamic simulations for various current and wave conditions and failure scenarios.

ABSTRACT Knowing the relationship between catch per unit effort (CPUE) and population density is crucial for the management of recreational fisheries. We conducted standardized angling for pike in 16 lakes (3.4–22.1 ha) to test whether lure type, color, and pike density affect CPUE and the size of captured fish.

Geolocation reveals wintering sites of near‐extinct Caucasian breeding sea duck
We obtained 14 sets of full annual cycle geolocator tracks from 13 individual nesting female Velvet Scoter Melanitta fusca from the relict Caucasian population at their last remaining breeding site, Lake Tabatskuri, Georgia. Results showed that females wintered at widespread discrete localities in Ukraine, around the coasts of the Crimean Peninsula and
