Transcriptomic profiling of Gh/Igf system reveals a prompted tissue-specific differentiation and novel hypoxia responsive genes in gilthead sea bream

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
A customized PCR-array was used for the simultaneous gene expression of the Gh/Igf system and related markers of muscle growth, and lipid and energy metabolism during early life stages of gilthead sea bream (60–127 days posthatching).

Development of a European Sea Bass eDNA Assay for Remote Ocean Observation

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
A highly sensitive and specific RPA‐CRISPR‐Cas12a assay can detect European Sea Bass in eDNA samples both in laboratory‐based and on test chips designed for Lab‐on‐Chip remote ocean observation. The ability to perform molecular assays outside of optimized laboratory conditions is significant for the future of point‐of‐need and remote testing.

Analysis and Characterization of Expressed Sequence Tag (EST) and Simple Sequence Repeats (SSR) from Red Sea Bream, Chrysophrys major, and Gilthead Sea Bream, Sparus aurata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A total of 101 and 119 simple sequence repeats (SSR) were obtained from expressed sequence tags (EST) of the red sea bream (Chrysophrys major) and gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), respectively.

Acute stress response in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) is time-of-day dependent: Physiological and oxidative stress indicators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Since fish show daily rhythms in most physiological functions, it should not be surprising that stressors may have different effects depending on the timing of exposure. In this study, we investigated the influence of time of day on the stress responses,

Ocean acidification promotes otolith growth and calcite deposition in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) larvae

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
The effects of ocean acidification on otolith crystallization and growth rates were investigated in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) larvae. Larvae were exposed to three different pH levels: pH8.2, pH7.7 and pH7.3 for a period of 18 days post ...

Selective Breeding and Production Strategies to Support Snapper Farming in the Warming Waters of New Zealand's South Island

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 1, March 2026.
Diversifying aquaculture species is essential for building resilience in the face of climate change, particularly as warming oceans challenge existing production systems. In New Zealand's Marlborough Sounds, rising sea temperatures are making finfish (e.g.

EFFECT OF LIVE FOOD ON SURVIVAL RATE AND GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF GIL THEAD SEABREAM Sparus aurata LARVAE. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Animal and Poultry Production, 2004
This experiment was carried out in order to study the effect of rotifers, Brachionus plicatilis, and encapsulated Artemia naup/ii as a live food on survival rate and growth performance of gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata, larvae.

Environmental Enrichment in Aquaculture: Linking Welfare Goals to Practical Applications

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Aquaculture is the fastest growing food production sector globally, comprising freshwater and marine species reared under highly variable farming contexts, ranging from extensive earthen ponds to intensive recirculating and sea‐based systems. Together with growth, production has also intensified, and the welfare of fish farmed in these systems
