On the Stability of a Gimbal Mounted Gyroscope
Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1961The combination of large gimbal frame inertia with slackness in the main rotor bearings can result in a gyroscope executing self-excited oscillations. Such a gyroscope can be simulated by a model which reproduces the main features of this instability.

Aspects of the Gimbal Suspension of Gyroscopes
1963This paper is concerned with the effects of motion of the supporting member, including angular vibration, on a) a gimbal-supported platform, b) a two-axis gyroscope and c) a single-axis gyroscope, and with the effects of flexibility of the rotor-shaft on the vibration of a singleaxis rate gyroscope.
