Ginger root powder is widely used as a dietary supplement as well as a spice and flavoring agent in foods and beverages. In this study, we developed a high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method that is suitable for the analysis of 6-gingerol, 6-shogaol, 8-gingerol, and 10-gingerol in a wide variety of ginger-containing dietary supplements ...

Polypharmacology and Neuroprotective Effects of Gingerol in Alzheimer’s Disease
Molecular NeurobiologyAlzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition that results in brain shrinkage and the death of brain cells. The search for new treatment agents with many targets is now crucial due to the insufficient effectiveness, and adverse effects, including pharmacokinetic issues of traditional AD medications. Although phytochemicals have anti-disease

Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of [6]-gingerol
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2005In the present study, the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of [6]-gingerol, which is the pungent constituent of ginger, were performed. Intraperitoneal administration of [6]-gingerol (25 mg/kg-50 mg/kg) produced an inhibition of acetic acid-induced writhing response and formalin-induced licking time in the late phase.

Antihepatotoxic actions of gingerols and diarylheptanoids
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 1985The antihepatotoxic effects of gingerols, shogaols, diarylheptanoids and related analogues were assessed utilizing carbon tetrachloride- and galactosamine-induced cytotoxicity in primary cultured rat hepatocytes. Most congeners exhibited significant actions in these assay methods.

Pharmacokinetics of Gingerols, Shogaols, and Their Metabolites in Asthma Patients
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 20226-Gingerol and 6-shogaol are the most abundant gingerols and shogaols in ginger root and have been shown to reduce the asthmatic phenotype in murine models of asthma. Several studies have described the pharmacokinetics of gingerols and shogaols in humans following the oral ingestion of ginger, while little was known about the metabolism of these ...

Microsomal Hydroxylation and Glucuronidation of [6]-Gingerol
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2006[6]-Gingerol is the major pungent principle of ginger and frequently is ingested with various condiments and nutritional supplements. We report here that incubation of [6]-gingerol with NADPH-fortified rat hepatic microsomes gave rise to eight metabolites, which were tentatively identified by GC-MS analysis as two products of aromatic hydroxylation as ...
