Recent Glacier Fluctuations in the Southern Andes

2000
The water supply of several towns, in addition to the study area, depends on rivers that are fed by meltwater of glaciers. The fluctuation of various glaciers from the Anconcagua massive was studied. The period studied, 1909–1994, is a time of general shrinking; however, some advances, including surges, could be observed.

Climatic Implications of Glacier Fluctuations

1986
For over a century glaciers all over the world have been retreating in response to rising temperatures, especially summer temperatures. Retreat has been punctuated by advances at intervals of a few decades which appear to be synchronous in many widely separated mountain regions.

Holocene glacier fluctuations in the American Cordillera

Quaternary Science Reviews, 1988
Abstract In many areas of the American Rocky Mountains (Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Montana), Cascade Range (Washington, Oregon), and the Sierra Nevada (California), radiocarbon ages suggest that ice receded to near present limits before 10 ka BP. A pre-Altithermal readvance or stillstand left moraines ca. 1–3 km beyond and ca.

Linear modeling of glacier fluctuations

Geografiska Annaler, Series A: Physical Geography, 2012
In this contribution a linear first-order differential equation is used to model glacier length fluctuations. This equation has two parameters describing the physical characteristics of a glacier: the climate sensitivity, expressing how the equilibrium glacier length depends on the climatic state, and the response time, indicating how fast a glacier ...
