Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia

The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2001
Glanzmann's thrombasthenia (GT) is an uncommon cause of bleeding in children. We diagnosed two siblings as having GT on the basis of flow cytometric studies. Both had cutaneous bleedings and epistaxis since early childhood. Hematological investigations revealed prolonged bleeding time and a normal platelet count.

Glanzmann thrombasthenia: An update

Clinica Chimica Acta, 2010
Glanzmann thrombasthenia (GT) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by qualitative or quantitative abnormalities of the platelet membrane glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa. Physiologically, this platelet receptor normally binds several adhesive plasma proteins, and this facilitates attachment and aggregation of platelets to ensure thrombus ...

Glanzmann's thrombasthenia revisited

The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 1996
Glanzmann's thrombasthenia is a rare thrombocytopathy that has been associated with fatal bleeding. This disorder is characterized by a defect in platelet aggregation. Platelet counts, morphologies, prothrombin times, and activated partial thromboplastin times are normal, however, the bleeding time is markedly prolonged.

Colonoscopic polypectomy in Glanzmann's thrombasthenia

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 1983
proctitis. 7 This report is unique because of the paucity of rectal and sigmoid pathology in association with striking inflammatory mass-like pathology in the transverse colon, presumably Campylobacter in origin. Campylobacter colitis has been previously reported as occurring in a segmental fashion with areas of macroscopic ulcerations quite similar in

Detection of Carriers in Glanzmann's Thrombasthenia

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1983
SummaryQuantitative glycoprotein (GP) analysis of whole platelets or platelet membranes was performed by SDS-polyacrylamide gelelectrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and periodic acid Schiff staining in the families of two unrelated Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia (GT) patients.

Diagnosis of Heterozygotes in Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1982
SummaryA study of a family with a propositus suffering from classical thrombasthenia type I has shown that the new immunochemical methods detect heterozygotes with high reliability. There was no overlapping between heterozygotes and normals, and the concentration of the glycoprotein IIb-IIIa-complex is remarkably constant around 50–60% in the ...

Osteopetrosis and Glanzmann's thrombasthenia in a child

Annals of Hematology, 2003
Autosomal recessive osteopetrosis is a rare, fatal disease characterized by accumulation of excessive bone mass due to defective bone resorption. The pathogenesis of osteopetrosis is controversial. Osteoblast-osteoclast interaction defects, incorrect differentiation of osteoclasts, abnormal contact between osteoclast and extracellular matrix, and ...

Glanzmann thrombasthenia in an Oldenbourg filly

Veterinary Clinical Pathology, 2007
Abstract An 18‐month‐old Oldenbourg filly was presented with a bleeding diathesis. Laboratory testing included platelet count, gingival bleeding time, prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), von Willebrand factor (vWf) antigen, clottable fibrinogen, clot retraction time, PFA‐100 closure time, platelet aggregometry (on ...

[Glanzmann thrombasthenia, PLA1 antigen and anti-Glanzmann antibody].

Revue francaise de transfusion et immuno-hematologie, 1979
Six cases of Glanzmann's thrombasthenia were studied using a platelet indirect radioactive Coombs (PIRC). In serum of two among six patients, an antibody was found, which reacted positively with all platelets except those of thrombasthenic patients.
