Development of Daylight Glare Analysis Method Using an Integrated Parametric Modelling Approach: A Comparative Study of Glare Evaluation Standards

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
Conducting lighting simulations to investigate lighting performance, such as glare, is widely accepted and of particular interest in the design development stage.

Perception of discomfort glare in relation to the CIE Unified Glare Rating scale (UGR) and the impact of ambient light on both UGR and Subjective Glare Indexes (SGIs)

open access: yesIndoor Environments
The Unified Glare Rating (UGR) method defined by the International Commission on Illumination is practically the only one used for evaluation of discomfort glare in the lighting design process. However, it is unclear if this method aligns with subjective

An Assessment of the Spatial Comfort at the Open Piazza of Baiturrahman Mosque, Banda Aceh, Indonesia

open access: yesAceh International Journal of Science and Technology, 2020
The Baiturrahman Grand Mosque is well-known as the identity of Banda Aceh town, Indonesia. The extensive renovation was carried out in 2015 to the Mosque, presenting an open piazza coated with glossy white marble replacing the previous greeneries and ...

The Effect of a Pre-Trial Range Demonstration on Subjective Evaluations Using Category Rating of Discomfort Due to Glare

open access: yes, 2019
Category rating is a procedure commonly used to evaluate visual discomfort due to glare. One recommended step for good practise in a category rating procedure is to use a pre-trial demonstration (PTD) of the range of stimuli to be experienced.

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...

Edges and gradients in lightness illusions: Role of optical veiling glare

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2022
Lightness Illusions (Contrast, Assimilation, and Natural Scenes with Edges and Gradients) show that appearances do not correlate with the light sent from the scene to the eye.

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Macular pigment spatial distribution effects on glare disability

open access: yesJournal of Optometry, 2015
Purpose: This project explored the relationship of the macular pigment optical density (MPOD) spatial profile with measures of glare disability (GD) across the macula.

Influence of macular pigment on the sensitivity to discomfort glare from daylight

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Understanding the factors that influence the human perception of glare is necessary to properly address glare risks in buildings and achieve comfortable visual environments, especially in the workplace.
