Evaluation of lighting conditions in portable classrooms and analysis for alternative daylighting systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Lighting conditions in multiple classrooms in central Texas were assessed, and the feasibility of improving portable classroom daylighting via alternative daylighting systems was also evaluated.

Discomfort glare and time of day [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
There are strong reasons to suspect that glare sensation varies with time of the day. This study was designed to test whether such a relationship exists. Thirty subjects were exposed to an artificial lighting source at four times of the day.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Perception of discomfort glare in relation to the CIE Unified Glare Rating scale (UGR) and the impact of ambient light on both UGR and Subjective Glare Indexes (SGIs)

open access: yesIndoor Environments
The Unified Glare Rating (UGR) method defined by the International Commission on Illumination is practically the only one used for evaluation of discomfort glare in the lighting design process. However, it is unclear if this method aligns with subjective

A prospective, population-based study of the role of visual impairment in motor vehicle crashes among older drivers: the SEE study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
PURPOSE: To determine the role of vision and visual attention factors in automobile crash involvement. METHODS: Drivers aged 65 to 84 years were identified during the baseline interview (1993-1995) of the Salisbury Eye Evaluation (SEE) Study.

Homologous expression and purification of human HAX‐1 for structural studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol provides detailed instructions for cloning, expressing, and purifying large quantities of the intrinsically disordered human HAX‐1 protein, N‐terminally fused to a cleavable superfolder GFP, from mammalian cells. HAX‐1 is predicted to undergo posttranslational modifications and to interact with membranes, various cellular ...

Integrated Dynamic Facade Control with an Agent-based Architecture for Commercial Buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Dynamic façades have significant technical potential to minimize heating, cooling, and lighting energy use and peak electric demand in the perimeter zone of commercial buildings, but the performance of these systems is reliant on being able to balance ...
