Bose glass and Fermi glass

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
AbstractIt is known that two-dimensional superconducting materials undergo a quantum phase transition from a localized state to superconductivity. When the disordered samples are cooled, bosons (Cooper pairs) are generated from Fermi glass and reach superconductivity through Bose glass.

Long-term IR Photometry of Seyferts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Long-term (up to 10000d) monitoring has been undertaken for 41 Seyferts in the near-IR (JHKL). All but 2 showed variability, with K ampl in the range 1.1 mags. The timescale for detectable change is from about one week to a few years.

On Glass, in Glass, of Glass: Some Developments in the Combination of Glass and Printmaking [PDF]

open access: yesArts, 2019
This paper considers some examples of creative glass practice and research at the ‘overlap’ of two distinct sectors of art and design—‘glassmaking’ and ‘printmaking’. The unique properties of glass mean that printed imagery can be applied on the glass surface, encapsulated within the glass form and can even be made of glass.

Electrons in Glass [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 1975
An outline is given of some of the steps which in the last ten years have led to an understanding of many of the properties of conduction and valence bands in non-crystalline materials. The concept of a mobility edge is described and some of the experimental evidence for its existence.

Critical Groups of Graphs with Dihedral Actions II

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper we consider the critical group of finite connected graphs which admit harmonic actions by the dihedral group $D_n$, extending earlier work by the author and Criel Merino. In particular, we show that the critical group of such a graph can be

Glass

open access: yes, 2019
Man-made glass was first regularly produced in Egypt and the Near East in the sixteenth century BC. It is often brightly coloured and was of high value, rating as a precious stone. As such, its study has the potential to not only give valuable information about technological ability and transfer, but also to map out exchange networks, especially if the

Period-magnitude relations for M giants in Baade's Window NGC6522

open access: yes, 2003
A large and complete sample of stars with K < 9.75 in the NGC6522 Baade's Window is examined using light curves from MACHO and IJK from DENIS. All 4 of the sequences ABCD in the K vs logP diagram of the LMC are seen in the Bulge.

Mid-IR period-magnitude relations for AGB stars

open access: yes, 2009
Asymptotic Giant Branch variables are found to obey period-luminosity relations in the mid-IR similar to those seen at K_S (2.14 microns), even at 24 microns where emission from circumstellar dust is expected to be dominant.
