Corrosion mechanism and bioactivity of borate glasses analogue to Hench’s bioglass [PDF]
Bioactive borate glasses (from the system Na2O-CaO-B2O3-P2O5) and corresponding glass-ceramics as a new class of scaffold material were prepared by full replacement of SiO2 with B2O3 in Hench patented bioactive glass.

Perlite for permanent confinement of cesium [PDF]
We present the potential use of expanded perlite, a metastable amorphous hydrated aluminium silicate, as a permanent medium for the long-term confinement of cesium.

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

Glasses, ceramics, and composites from lunar materials [PDF]
A variety of useful silicate materials can be synthesized from lunar rocks and soils. The simplest to manufacture are glasses and glass-ceramics. Glass fibers can be drawn from a variety of basaltic glasses.

Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

It is shown in this work that a synthetic route based on the auto-combustion of an ethylene glycol-metal nitrate polymerized gel precursor can be efficiently used to easily produce a range of La0.6Sr0.4Fe1-yCoyO3-δ nanopowders at moderate temperatures ...

This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Rare-earth ions doped transparent oxyfluoride glass-ceramics
In recent years, rare-earth ions doped transparent oxyfluoride glass-ceramics have attracted great attentions for their low phonon energy environments of fluoride nanocrystals and high chemical and mechanical stabilities of oxide glassy matrix.

Impact Strength Of Glass And Glass Ceramic [PDF]
Strength of glass and glass ceramic was measured with a bar impact technique. High-speed movies show regions of tensile and compressive failure. The borosilicatc glass had a compressive strength of at least 2.2 GPa, and the glass ceramic at least 4 GPa ...
