Preparation and Property of Cu50Zr50-xYx Amorphous Alloy
Cu-Zr bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) have aroused wide concern recently as they have good glass forming ability, excellent mechanical property, high corrosion resistance and relatively low cost. In this research, different amount of rare earth Y were added

Thermodynamics and the Glass Forming Ability of Alloys [PDF]
Bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) have received a great deal of attention due to scientific and technological interest ever since the first successful synthesis of an amorphous phase in the Au–Si system in 1960 (Klement et al., 1960). There has been a lot of interest to identify parameters to assess the glass forming ability (GFA) of various alloy systems ...

Excessively High Vapor Pressure of Al-based Amorphous Alloys
Aluminum-based amorphous alloys exhibited an abnormally high vapor pressure at their approximate glass transition temperatures. The vapor pressure was confirmed by the formation of Al nanocrystallites from condensation, which was attributed to weight ...

Atomic-Scale Mechanisms of the Glass-Forming Ability in Metallic Glasses
The issue, composition dependence of glass-forming ability (GFA) in metallic glasses (MG), has been investigated by systematic experimental measurements coupled with theoretical calculations in Cu-Zr and Ni-Nb alloy systems. It is found that the atomic-level packing efficiency strongly relates to their GFA.

Glass-forming ability of soda lime borate liquids [PDF]
We investigate the composition dependence of glass-forming ability (GFA) of a series of iron-containing soda lime borate liquids by substituting Na2O for B2O3. We have characterized GFA by measuring the glass stability against crystallization using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The results show that the GFA decreases when substituting Na2O
