Atomic-Scale Mechanisms of the Glass-Forming Ability in Metallic Glasses
The issue, composition dependence of glass-forming ability (GFA) in metallic glasses (MG), has been investigated by systematic experimental measurements coupled with theoretical calculations in Cu-Zr and Ni-Nb alloy systems. It is found that the atomic-level packing efficiency strongly relates to their GFA.

Excessively High Vapor Pressure of Al-based Amorphous Alloys
Aluminum-based amorphous alloys exhibited an abnormally high vapor pressure at their approximate glass transition temperatures. The vapor pressure was confirmed by the formation of Al nanocrystallites from condensation, which was attributed to weight ...

Glass-forming ability of soda lime borate liquids [PDF]
We investigate the composition dependence of glass-forming ability (GFA) of a series of iron-containing soda lime borate liquids by substituting Na2O for B2O3. We have characterized GFA by measuring the glass stability against crystallization using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The results show that the GFA decreases when substituting Na2O

Cu-based bulk amorphous alloy with larger glass-forming ability and supercooled liquid region
The glassy rod with a maximum sample thickness of 11 mm and larger supercooled liquid region of 108 K was successfully fabricated when substituting Cu with minor amount of Ag in the Cu-Zr-Al-Gd alloy system.

Role of minor additions on metallic glasses and composites
Microalloying refers to the addition of a small concentration of an alloying element to tune the properties of the parent alloy. Microalloying technology enables to control the glass formation and the mechanical properties of bulk metallic glasses (BMGs).

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
