Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Effect of P on glass forming ability, magnetic properties and oxidation behavior of FeSiBP amorphous alloys

open access: yes, 2017
The effect of P on the glass forming ability, soft magnetic properties and oxidation behavior of Fe78B13Si9-xPx (x = 0-7) amorphous alloys were investigated. It is found that the proper introduction of P, can effectively improve the glass forming ability

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Design of new MG-based glass forming compositions using liquidus temperaure calculations correlated with an elastic strain model

open access: yes, 2011
New Mg-based glass-forming compositions have been designed based upon the convergence of two existing predictive models; (1) a liquidus model developed by Cheney and Vecchio, and (2) an elastic strain model proposed by Miracle and Senkov.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Pronounced enhancement of glass-forming ability of Fe-Si-B-P bulk metallic glass in oxygen atmosphere

open access: yes, 2014
It is widely accepted that oxygen will severely deteriorate the glass-forming ability (GFA) of an alloy. In this work, we report that the GFA of a Fe76Si9B10P5 glassy alloy can be significantly improved (the critical diameter for fully glass formation is

Glassy steel optimized for glass-forming ability and toughness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
An alloy development strategy coupled with toughness assessments and ultrasonic measurements is implemented to design a series of iron-based glass-forming alloys that demonstrate improved glass-forming ability and toughness. The combination of good glass-

TOPICAL REVIEW On the glass forming ability of liquid alloys

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2008
By using the concepts of the short-range order (SRO) and middle-range order (MRO) characterizing structures, an attempt has been made to describe the glass forming ability (GFA) of liquid alloys.

Natural Bone‐Derived Ceramic Scaffolds Functionalized with Chitosan‐Gold, Chitosan‐Magnesium, and Chitosan‐Zinc for Enhanced Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the development of antibacterial ceramic scaffolds derived from natural bovine bone. The bones were processed through sequential boiling and hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove organic matter, producing porous, mineral‐rich scaffolds.
