Solvable models of Glass Transition

open access: yes, 1999
Simple statistical agglomeration models can provide a universal link between the local structure and the glass transition temperature in network glasses.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Overlap fluctuations in glass-forming liquids

open access: yes, 2013
We analyse numerically thermal fluctuations of the static overlap between equilibrium configurations in a glass-forming liquid approaching the glass transition.

Gibbs free-energy difference between the glass and crystalline phases of a Ni-Zr alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The heats of eutectic melting and devitrification, and the specific heats of the crystalline, glass, and liquid phases have been measured for a Ni24Zr76 alloy.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Characterization of the glass transition in vitreous silica by temperature scanning small-angle X-ray scattering

open access: yes, 2005
The temperature dependence of the x-ray scattering in the region below the first sharp diffraction peak was measured for silica glasses with low and high OH content (GE-124 and Corning 7980). Data were obtained upon scanning the temperature at 10, 40 and

Crossover of Microscopic Dynamics in Metallic Supercooled Liquid Observed by NMR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Nuclear magnetic resonance is used to characterize local atomic motions in the glassy and supercooled liquid states of the bulk metallic glass system Pd43Ni10Cu27P20. The temperature dependence of the Knight shift reveals that certain local atomic motion

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

THE INFLUENCE OF REACTIVE DILUENT ON REOKINETICS OF HEAT-RESISTANCE BINDERS BASED ON POLYFUNCTIONAL EPOXY RESIN

open access: yesТонкие химические технологии, 2013
Reokinetic properties of multifunctional epoxy resin at diffrent temperatures with low-viscosity reactive diluents containing glycidyl ether, and the glass transition temperature and the degradation temperature of heat-resistant polymer matrix was ...

Origin of the Growing Length Scale in M-p-Spin Glass Models

open access: yes, 2012
Two versions of the M-p-spin glass model have been studied with the Migdal-Kadanoff renormalization group approximation. The model with p=3 and M=3 has at mean-field level the ideal glass transition at the Kauzmann temperature and at lower temperatures ...
